5.0 out of 5 stars Little Tikes at a Little Price
My son is 8 months old and loves his wide track walker. He walks all over, following me around the house. He's strengthening his legs and learning his colors and numbers at the same time. He loves to "mail" the little plastic letters and then take them out and mail them again.

I bought this for my 10 month old daughter as she had been cruising for about 1 1/2 months and I thought she would enjoy having something to practice walking with and push. I'm not happy at all with the durability. She is constantly pulling the mailbox slots off (they come off VERY easily) and has squished her fingers in them on more than one occasion. Once she pulls them off, she likes to stand in the opening thing which looks really cute but it's really dangerous as I can just see her tumbling backwards. She isn't interested in the toy things - the catepillar is too hard to move back and forth. Overall, I wish I would have bought one of the Fisher Price walkers - they seem much sturdier and don't have parts that come off so easily.

I would recommend you shop around before purchasing this one.

My son is 8 months old and loves his wide track walker. He walks all over, following me around the house. He's strengthening his legs and learning his colors and numbers at the same time. He loves to "mail" the little plastic letters and then take them out and mail them again.

Its price was less than all the others we looked at, but I feel the quality is more than acceptable.

I agree with the reviewers who said the little doors on the front can too easily be pulled off, but the more your child walks with it, the more interested in actually walking with it they are and they'll soon learn to leave the doors alone!

The speed control feature works well on several different heights of carpet throughout our home and the toy has proved to be sturdy (our 8 month old is 30 inches high and weighs 25 lbs). Most others we tried did not have speed control and on low pile carpet, linoleum and hardwood floors they just "took off" out from under him, causing him to land on his face.

ANY walker can tip. We tried some out in the store and at two different friends' houses--they all flipped or turned over when my son pulled down hard on them or sat down hard while still grasping the handle.

Good toy at a great price.

We bought this for our son when he was 7 months old. The first thing he does is take the doors off, they come off so easy. He climbs in it using it for a ladder. It is very dangerous. He cannot move the little bugs on the front. I have to keep it folded up and in a corner so he cannot use it without us right there with him. He is now one year old and still like playing with the plastic "letters" that come with it more than anything else. He does walk with it, it is good for that. but when he was learning to take steps it would fall over on top of him when he would try to stand up holding the handle to walk with it. It is supposed to be a sturdy walker, but I don't agree with that. The base is not wide enough. My mother gave us a radio flyer walker wagon from LL Bean and this is MUCH better for little ones just learning to walk. It doesn't fall over when he uses the handle to stand up with, and it is VERY sturdy!
I wish I had not spent the money on the wide tracker now.

We chose this activity walker for our 8 month old based on its solid construction and the ability for parents to set the ease at which the wheels will roll. Our daughter loves to push this toy across the room over and over again. Unfortunately the "doors" on the front are easily removable, allowing a large space for her to stand up in the toy. She has now figured out how to use this toy as a step up to reach the TV and climb up on the furniture. I wish the "doors" were not so easy to remove. Otherwise, this is a well-priced, sturdy toy.

2.0 out of 5 stars There are better products out there, April 25, 2004
This review is from: MGA Little Tikes Wide Tracker Activity Walker (Toy)
We received this as a gift for my third child. The older two used a wonderful one that gave out after the second one and unfortunately, they're not made anymore. This one only has two advantages over the old one: (1) it has a wheel control (like those on roller skates) to tighten the wheel so it won't go too fast for the baby learning to walk and (2) it's much easier to make it go flat or sit it back up right - I broke a lot of fingernails trying to make the old one change positions.

The two doors, like the other reviewers said, come off way too easily. Once they're off -- there is little left on the toy except the boring sliders (in comparison to other baby toys). The three "letters" just float around the junk pile and are a waste.

At least, the walker has two handles - one on top for standing, and one on the back for walking on knees, which my baby likes to do. I'm glad it wasn't me who bought this.

My husband and I bought this toy for my 8 month old daughter. We liked it because it was the only one on the market that had " cruise control" and we thought that would be important since we have hardwood floors. We spent almost an hour putting it together and then we let the little one try it out. At first she was so excited to play with the toys. But as soon as she opened the mail box and started to climb up. The the flap popped off and she fell on the front of the walker busting her lip. Needless to say it went back to the toy store and we bought the playzone activity walker. She likes the colors, sounds and sturdy craftsmanship better than the little tikes.

This was a gift, and I quickly noticed how dull most of the "activities" on it were, and that she couldn't really do them herself at 7 months (and doesn't really care anymore at 10 months). Here we are at 10 months, and she gets more out of it as we go. She really enjoys opening and closing the doors and "mailing" the letters, but I am SO SICK of having to re-attach the doors. Couldn't they have made them just a little sturdier? Also, when she was first cruising, she could not keep up with the walker, and would fall. She is just now able to keep up while walking behind it. However, keep an eye out, because if they try to pull up with it, it'll tip right over (hence some people's safety concerns). It really should be weighted a little bit better. Lauren does get a lot of use out of this toy, but if it were not a gift, I would probably choose a more durable walking toy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive but still good, April 5, 2006

I had to write a review for this toy because I am so pleased with it. My boy/girl twins have played with this toy for months. Before they could walk they played with it folded flat, they loved to move the caterpillar and bee.

The two levels of handles helped when they were learning to stand up. When they starting standing up with it, they did eventually learn to pull the doors off and we could never keep them on. But that was okay because once they learned to walk they used the space where the doors were to transport baby dolls or cars. It makes a great baby stroller, esp. when compared to the toy umbrella strollers which caused so many falls in our house.

I really liked that you can adjust the speed of the wheels. That was really helpful for us since my kids took a little while to learn to walk and we used the locked mode to help them get the hang of walking and become steady on their feet.

This toy is very sturdy - I could trust that my kids could play with it and not worry all the time that they would fall over using it. We tried other walkers at friends' houses and they were too fancy (the kids wanted to play with the toys rather than walk) or heavy or tippy. I bought this on a whim, I liked the price and the brand and I have been very happy with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very sturdy for learning walkers, October 19, 2006

My daughter was a late walker because of a dislocated hip. Both before and after her three months in a spica cast, this toy has been hands-down her favorite thing in the whole house. NOT because of the doors on the front that fall off (though there is sometimes interest in the spinner on the detatched blue door); NOT because of the "games" that don't really interest her (really? move a bee up and down and a caterpillar side to side?); and NOT for the "mail" that comes with it (though those are fun toys in themselves and get carried around and chewed on a lot). This toy is the best toy in the house purely because it provides her the freedom to walk where ever she wants to go. It is LIGHT enough for her to lift over obstacles and turn around corners. It's STURDY enough that she can use it to stand up and lean on. It doesn't go too fast on wood floors or too slow on carpet. And, without the two doors on the front, she can put toys in it to cart around as she walks. Without those two silly doors I would have given it 5 stars. A GREAT push toy.

Edited 2/23/09 to add: This toy is now out again for my 1-year-old twin daughters. It is the main source of contention between syblings as it is, yet again, the hands-down favorite toy in the house. My now 4-year-old sometimes walks around with a 1-year-old holding on next to her - they do laps around the house together (aww!). I am reminded again why I like this cart so much. The wheels tighten so that a new walker can't push it too fast. It's light enough to lift and turn. And, of course, it carries whatever a little heart desires!

My 11 month old likes this. They door come off VERY easily but they are also very easy to snap back on. Our son is just learning to walk so I have the wheels as tight as they can be and I still think they're a little loose. When he goes from the carpet to the hardwood floor this lightweight walker moves so quickly he lands on his knees. However, I guess he is learning about hardwood floors this way. He likes it, but if I had to do it again I'd shop around for a sturdier walker.
