About the Author

Edward Ardizzone was born in 1900, the eldest of five children. In 1905 his family moved to Ipswich, where he "learnt to know and love the little coastal steamers that [he has] drawn so often in the Tim books." Illustrator of more than 170 books, Mr. Ardizzone was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1956 and the CBE in 1971. Mr. Ardizzone died in 1979.

This is one of the best children's books I've read in a long time! My son and I were spellbound by the adventures of Tim, who wants to be a sailor. Both words and pictures create such a nautical feeling, you can almost smell the sea air as you read! Very exciting story, too! I think every little boy will want to go to sea after reading Little Tim and the Brave Sea Captain!

This is a picture book in the classic tradition. It is for older "little ones", probably five to eight years. Tim has wonderful adventures and learns a lot from the captain, who is an admirable hero.

I loved this book as a a kid and read it over and over again. They had it in my Kindergaten class room for the kids to read. I probably read somne of the other ittle Tim books but this is the 1 that I never forgot after more than 30 years
