back for more... kind of.,

Let me put it this way: Barring a few technical tricks and song references, I could almost believe that this was a long lost Beatles album. It's not a slavish reproduction or pastiche (a la The Rutles). This is, essentially, an album-length love letter to a band. It's all here: the Sgt. Pepper bombast, the quiet love ballads, the psychedelia, the angry "go away" rant, the backmasking... and amazingly, it all works as both a tribute and on its own merit.Best of all, like any good pop song, it leaves me wanting more. These are all short songs (the longest clocks in at just over four minutes) that last long enough to catch your ear, entertain you and then move on. Simple, easy and eminently diverting. If you're not a Beatles purist, if you can handle the notion of an honest tribute, you owe it to yourself to find this disc. It is simply, to borrow a word, fab.

This album is the net result of musical genius and love of a legendary band. Many could dismiss this as a tribute or soundalike band...but Vinyl Kings are truly talented. They make sounding like The Beatles sound so easy...in reality these "lads" are just extremely talented. More please!

This is well produced, written and packaged. This band is not trying to be "The Beatles" but show thier respect to the band by producing great "sound alike" Beatles flavoured music. "Time Machine" is thier follow up album to be released January 20th 2005 I'm buying it! How about you? :)

We all know The Beatles are long gone, but this CD really taps into the sounds, and style that we came to love. I can't believe it took this long for someone to capture the essence of The Beatles, but it was well worth the wait. Put on your headphones, close your eyes, and listen....Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!!

I just got this today, have only spun it once so this review will be brief but to the point: this is one talented group of guys who have written 13 "new" Beatle tunes! You can believe all the hype you see about this album - it's absolutely accurate. A couple of song highlights in particular: "What If It Were You" sounds like the perfect marriage of a McCartney-penned Beatles tune collaborating with the Beach Boys when they were at their creative peak (think the "Friends" through the "Surf's Up" albums). "Dreams" is another McCartney-influenced/Abbey Road/solo Paul-styled masterpiece. "Mind Over Matter" is new John Lennon, folks. After just one listen to this album, my mind has been blown. I've been waiting 33 years for someone to pick up the ball where John, Paul, George & Ringo left off, and I've not heard it done correctly 'til now. My absolute, without-a-doubt, favorite CD purchase of 2003.

I have listened to both albums by The Vinyl Kings and they remind me of a combo of The Beatles and a 70's band called Klaatu. Klaatu was rumored to be the Beatles reformed in the 70's and they skyrocketed in popularity until they were found not to be The Beatles. Then they faded into obscurity. Never the less, I love the the sound of the Vinyl Kings, they are a refreshing departure from the crap on the radio.

Just by a fluke, I stumbled upon this hidden gem. My question is: How did this band, with two masterpieces of music get by me for all these years? I normally have my pulse on what would appeal to me, and networking with others with similar tastes, helps me wade through all the muck to find the good stuff. But how I missed the Vinyl Kings, is still beyond me. Now I'm making up for lost time. This cd and 'Time Machine" are without a doubt, two of the best things I've put in my ears in years. The songs are strong, the production is first rate, and I can't see how anyone could not enjoy this music. Now, I just need to catch everyone else up, who might've missed the same Magic Bus I did. I absolutely love it!

I'm late to the Vinyl Kings. I didn't know they existed until about a year ago. I was talking with Larry Lee this summer (yes, THE Larry Lee from the Daredevils and Vinyl Kings), asking him if the CD for this was available. He told me that no, it was sadly out of print, and likely will never see another printing. So, the next best thing is downloads.
This music is incredible. I'd rate it as 6 stars if the ratings went that high!!! It's every bit as good as a "A Little Trip". These guys absolutely know how to channel John, George, and Dennis (while adding in Paul, Ringo, Mike, and Brian) into their music without being a "tribute" band. You know it's not the Fab Four, or the Beach Boys. But, it's got that feel and vitality that the originals had, and that somehow got lost on most pop music circa around 1970 or 1971. The music and lyrics on each track just grab you and don't let go until the next song starts. Then, that track does the same thing, and on it goes till the end. There is a wondrous hook in each song. How rare is that? Pure joy to listen to. Pop music at its best. Thanks guys, for another opportunity to re-visit what made me fall in love with music in the first place!
