A Good Historical Introduction for Elementary Age Readers,
By NightOwlBookstore "Mantis" (South Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Little Turtle the Story of an American Indian (Library Binding)
NOTE: This book was written for juvenile readers (mid to later elementary grades, say) and is NOT A BABY OR PRESCHOOL BOOK (!) as stated in Amazon's product details, above. Having said that, this 66-page book is a great introduction, albeit slightly sanitized, for young readers into the lives of expatriation of Native Americans in the 17th and 18th centuries -- specifically, into the life of Chief Little Turtle of the Miami confederation, who fought, then made treaties with white men, before finally being betrayed and driven to the Trail of Tears. The text is well organized and an easy read, made more interesting by the generous accompaniment of archival photographs, maps and illustrations.
