5.0 out of 5 stars the text is terrific, first-rate text, December 30, 1997
By A Customer
I would have called this book "Tooth Walker," and perhaps have anthropomorphized the "characters" a bit more, make it both scientifically solid (as it certainly is) and more fanciful, just slightly. It's certainly a valuable little book, and as are the marketing spinoffs. I deeply look forward to reading the upcoming series (Grolier) that Carol Young and Skip Crane are producing (over the next two years), on Imagining Nature, a fabulous and instructional series for young children on nature's formations, such as trees, fungi, ice--all the mysteries (and hidden faces) in the faces of nature. This series will spin the world of young scientists and the curious among us all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little Walrus warning, January 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Little Walrus Warning - a Smithsonian Oceanic Collection Book (Mini book) (Hardcover)
I consulted with a local children's librarian and viewed the children's books I was considering that were in the library. My prerequisites were nature related and well-illustrated. This book is both. I highly recommend a visit and an actual handling of the book. My grandchildren are out of state and I cannot take them to my library myself very often yet. When I have tried to purchase books based on just the Amazon description I have been wrong in my choices for age appropriateness and quality of illustration. Titles are not enough and what is "popular" or promoted is not my guide.
