I don't have much time to read, except the thousands of words I read every day as part of my job in the media industry. So reading is one of the last things on my after-hours list. But the author, Cordy Overgaard, told me he had written a book and gave me a copy. I loved the book from the beginning and found myself thinking of it as a movie script. It begins with intrigue, weaves in a little sexual tension between the two main characters who are assigned to work together to track down a drug kingpin in South America, and captivated me with the twists and turns of a classic suspense novel. This is a terrific tale, and the author's storytelling abilities -- along with his knowledge of the show-horse business, illegal drug trading and Latin America bring it all together quite nicely. I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to sink into a good story.

I wondered what a TM was and although I love dogs, I couldn't see how a little white dog could fit into an action novel. I started reading just to see what gives and then couldn't stop because I kept trying to figure out how the pieces were all going to fit together. For me, the good news early on was that the white dog wasn't so little and I was loving the story because it had plenty of twists and turns to keep me engaged. As I read along, I couldn't help feeling that I was there. The book has a good pace throughout and builds up to a tempo that is hard to keep up with. Great job Cordy! My one question: when will we be able to read about TM's next adventure?

This first novel succeeds in presenting a complicated, fast moving story of drug crime and revenge in Latin America and the United States. Cordell Overgaard takes the reader from Brazil to the East Coast, to Denver, Chicago, Florida, Columbia, Mexico, Arizona, and back again.

The author ably portrays the cruelty and casual attitude toward violence and murder that accompanies the illegal drug trade. I was particularly impressed with the author's attention to the business and techniques of personal security.

But, what makes this story unique is the way the author incorporates his love and knowledge of the Paso Fino horse breed. Overgaard brings to life the places and events where this horse is bred and celebrated, and makes them integral to the plot and fabric of the story. The horses present a wonderful entrée into some of the most beautiful environs of Columbia. The Columbian horse show is one of the most vibrant crowd events brought to life in the story.

As a first effort and a self-published one at that, there are elements of the story that could be much improved with greater editorial attention: copy editing, the interior lives of the characters(particularly the female characters), and the sex scenes were not quite up to par with the rest of the book.

More troubling was that the characters are humorless even though there are many situations -including when two unmarried protagonists travel as husband and wife, that could have been more vibrant and memorable if the humor of their predicaments were more apparent. This could have made the characters more likable, believeable, and brought them to life a bit more. A bit of laughter might have made the sex scenes more fun too . . . just sayin'!

I thought that the story was very fascinating. It was unique to any other book theme that I have ever read. The author has extensive knowledge of the international drug crime and horse trade.

The book was packed with suspense and I could visualize each scene in the story. It was full of twists and turns leading to a very surprising and soulful ending.

I look forward to more books from this author. I would highly recommend it.
