4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but no consequences shown
I really enjoyed this book. But the whole time I was waiting to find out how Pippa's lies would catch up with her. Then the end came and I didn't see any real consequences to her sin, nor to the lies the "blue chip" women told. I was waiting for Pippa's conversion, her realization that her "little white lies" were sinful but I didn't see that. At...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Slow
I really enjoyed the Benreys' other series and so I decided to give this one a try. While the book wasn't bad, it was very slow. It seemed to take forever to get interesting and really plodded along. Nothing exciting really happened until the very end. While you don't necessarily know which of four women is the murderer, its pretty clear what will happen. The...

At the end Gloria did something I would not have expected a Christian to do, it seemed out of character to her previous Christian witness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing, March 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Little White Lies (The Pippa Hunnechurch Mystery Series #1) (Paperback)
In "Little White Lies", Janet and Ron Benrey have created a totally likable heroine, Pippa Hunnechurch. This British import, a hard-working, savvy headhunter, finds herself, while struggling to save her agency, suddenly caught in the middle of murder. With the help of her one-of-a-kind secretary, Gloria, Pippa sorts through the tangle of little while lies to find the truth. The end is both exciting and satisfying, and I, for one, hope Pippa returns soon with further adventures.

Little White Lies by Ron and Janet Benrey is an example of why the Christian marketplace deserves a second look by people who think it's dull, preachy and inferior to secular writing. Little White Lies refutes that notion in spades. The book has it all -- witty, sophisticated characterizations; a plot I couldn't stop reading; an engaging voice to introduce a protagonist I hope to see again and again in sequels. Loved it! Recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very entertaining mystery, February 6, 2001
This review is from: Little White Lies (The Pippa Hunnechurch Mystery Series #1) (Paperback)
Born in England, Pippa Hunnechurch now lives in the United States and has for over two years since her spouse and child died in a senseless car accident. Pippa plans to become a permanent resident of Ryde, Maryland after falling in love with her adopted new homeland.

Pippa, who runs a headhunting agency, meets popular peer Marsha Morgan during a Chamber of Commerce meeting. They immediately hit it off so when Pippa needs an applicant fast for a client, she turns to Marsha for help. Marsha offers the perfect candidate and the two women split the fee. However, before they can divide their earnings, Marsha dies in a drowning accident that Pippa believes is a disguised homicide connected to the deceased's business. With the help of Marsha's secretary, Pippa tries to solve which of the four likely suspects killed her new friend.

LITTLE WHITE LIES is an entertaining mystery that fans of cozies and amateur sleuth tales will enjoy. Readerss of inspirational stories will adore the novel too as Ron and Janet Benrey show how embracing God's love can make the difference in one's life without preaching their message. In fact, the writing team adroitly interweaves their feelings into a well thought out who-done-it populated by four viable suspects and a determined headhunting "sleuth".

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved This Book! Can't wait to read Book 2!, November 3, 2010
Lies have consequences. Even little ones. And little white lies can lead to murder. That's the premise of Little White Lies. I found this engaging mystery quite by accident and have enjoyed the read from start to finish. I thought the story compelling and the characters true to life. Pippa Hunnechurch, the female heroine, captivated me completely. So did her sidekick, Gloria. I will definitely look for other mysteries by Ron and Janet Benrey.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little White Lies, November 2, 2010

As you know, little whit lies have a tendency to turn into big problems, and so it is with Pippa. The plot is believable but quick enough to keep your full attention. I like my characters to sound like someone I would like to know and I would like to get to know Pippa a bit better. I look forward to her next adventure.

The Christian message was also pretty weak. I might try another in the series, but I won't buy it. Pippa isn't an unlikeable character, but the plot just moves too slow to really pull you in. I keep putting the book down and then completely forgetting about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series!, October 15, 2010
This first book in the Pippa Hunnechurch series is a great read. The Benreys pack "Little White Lies" with twists, turns, and suspense. Readers will be drawn to Pippa's quirky personality and her penchant for solving crimes. The spiritual aspect isn't forced or preachy. Readers will love Pippa and will find it hard to wait for her next adventure. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, October 14, 2010
I loved this book! It has all the elements of a great read - good, realistic characters, an intricate plot, and high stakes tension. But it's also the kind of book that makes you feel really good at the end - like you just spent time with people you enjoyed being around. You cared about them, wanted the best for them, and they came through for you. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who would have thought inspirtational fiction could be so deceptive?, August 29, 2010
'Kay, I confess. I'm partial to Benrey mysteries. I own several of their paperbacks and continue to return to them when I want to enjoy a gripping mystery novel. Who would have thought inspirational fiction could be so deceptive? Finally, I can have White Lies told to me on an ebook. Great read!
