Cute Easy Reader Halloween Story,
By Terrie (Little Chute, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Little Witch's Big Night (Step-Into-Reading, Step 3) (Paperback)
This "STEP into Reading" title is a Step 2 book which means it is intended for Grades 1-3. It is the first of several titles featuring the sweet and fun-loving character, Little Witch, charmingly brought to life by illustrator Marc Brown. The other witch characters Mother Witch, Grouchy Witch, Nasty Witch and the pet bat, Scrubby are funny and not at all scary. The story begins on Halloween when Little Witch is made to stay home from the witchly revels because she has been too GOOD! Oh, the shame of it! She ends up meeting some trick-or-treaters and they have a lot of fun together. There are lots of funny rhyming spells and exciting and good-hearted adventures. Halloween fun abounds. The pictures and the text are lively and will definitely encourage interest. I recommend this not only as a great incentive for reading but as an enjoyable Halloween story that can just as well be read aloud by a parent. Don't miss Happy Birthday, Little Witch. It's good, too.

This book is easy for me to read. It is a little sad at first, but then it gets exciting.

A great book for beginning readers. The illustrations are charming and the story is as well. It should definitely capture their imagination. Besides, what child doesn't want to read a book where the mother encourages the child to be naughty and messy?

Little Witch's Big Night,
By Ben (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Little Witch's Big Night (Step-Into-Reading, Step 3) (Paperback)
This children's book is about a little witch who has to stay home on Halloween for being too good. When three trick-or-treaters come to her door asking for treats, Little Witch doesn't have any treats, so she gives them a ride on her broomstick. This book was well-written and well-illustrated, but I thought it was a little boring. Written by Deborah Hautzig and Illustrated by Marc Brown, an okay book to read, but not one I'd want to buy.

The Little Witch series of books were ones that my mom read to my sister & I when we were young. Very few of the toddler books stay with you like these did. When my mom & I started talking about remembering these books, I looked on Amazon & found them for my 4 year old daughter. Now I read them to her & she loves them! She LOVES how Little Witch gets in trouble for things like reading books, cleaning her room & making her bed. She isn't too young to get the irony of it & thinks it's hilarious. We bought them because it's nearing Halloween and she's all into anything scary, but these are great books that can be read all year round.

Little Witch's Big Night (Step-Into-Reading, Step 3)
In this story Little Witch was too good and her mother punishes her by making her stay home on Halloween night when the rest of the witches go out. She is sad but three little trick or treaters come to the door. She has no treats to give so she gives them each a ride on her broom stick. It turns out to be the best Halloween ever. In her usual way she befriends the three normal children and amazes them with her magic spells. Mother Witch as usual is cooking some gross stuff and yelling about Little Witch's too nice behavior but in the end she loves her little witch in spite of these faults. It is charming and funny.

We have about three Little Witch books and my four year old son enjoys them all. Little Witch is a sweet little witch. They are cute books! For ages probably 3-7.

I bought this book to read to my daughter when she was about three years old. Once she started to read about the age of five she would read it to me. It's a very cute story. My daughter will be eight soon and she still likes to take it out and read it to me once in a while.

My son is just starting to read well, and he sat and read this to me from beginning to end. At first he groaned when I brought it out, but after a couple of pages he was interested to know what was going to happen and read it with enthusiasm.
