Editorial Reviews

Begin with the shimmering, sharp tones of steel pans and an electronically souped-up marimba; mix in jazz, Calypso, Latin, African, and Asian musical influences; add sizeable helpings of rhythms, musical quotes, licks, stories, and soundbytes; season with an A-to-Z collection of acoustic and electronic percussion instruments; and voilà!—you have the newest release from “planetary percussionists” Mat Britain and Dan Moore.

Little World of Rhythm is another tour de force recording for The Britain/Moore Duo, who have been performing the "BMD" brand of percussion for more than fifteen years.

Little World features the BMD’s original compositions and a few of their quirky renditions of jazz standards. Although it may sound as if there are more than two musicians on this CD, Britain and Moore perform alone with two notable exceptions: Jam Masta G provides a rap recitation on the Miles Davis classic So What, and jazz luminary Matt Wilson sits in on drumset on the imperative Thelonius Monk standard Well You Needn’t.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound of Steel pan and Marimba, July 21, 2002

I think that anyone who digs percussion will really enjoy this CD, there is a well incorporated variety of jazz and cultural music and background instruments. I can feel the pride and joy that the artists put into the music. To me, the sound of a steel pan and marimba playing together is exquisite and almost ethereal. My favorite track was 6. Ebeneezer's Day, because of the harmonies and direction of the music.

This album is just plain fun! The BMD provide a cool Caribbean jazz blend with a musical spirit that lifts the soul. There is passion behind these artists and a surprise at every turn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, June 30, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Little World of Rhythm (Audio CD)
I have gone to a percussion camp at the University of Iowa that had Moore and Britain as the clinicians. They are both fun and exciting to listen to. They have been two of the most influential people in my life. This C.D. really shows the musical bond between the two of them. If you love listening to total percussionist you will love this C.D.
