Author Erika Dillman started practicing yoga after being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. She was nervous when she went to her first class: "I couldn't shake from my mind the pictures I'd seen in yoga books of gaunt, solemn men, wearing what looked like giant diapers, with one leg wrapped around their necks, and cold, expressionless women in Jack LaLanne-style polyester unitards nonchalantly twisting, bending, and lifting themselves into torturous positions." Dillman successfully dispels myths like these, explaining how she slowly learned that yoga can be an uplifting, individual pursuit, and one that reduced her fatigue, boosted her flexibility, and may very well have saved her sanity. Her awe and respect for the art of yoga is palpable, making The Little Yoga Book a big pleasure to read.

This book inspired me to try yoga! Easy to follow poses,

I'm taking my first yoga class next week after reading this book!! The author's personal account of using yoga to improve her health is inspiring. What prompted me to explore yoga myself though was her explanation of how it can benefit others, plus her down to earth approach to yoga. She has easy to understand descriptions and depictions of poses and breathing exercises. She also emphasizes that yoga is an activity that can be beneficial upon first attempts but is even more useful if one is patient and practices over time.

Good things come in little packages,

I have been taking yoga classes for over a year, have several videos and cds. However, I carry this book with me. Whenever I have a wait in an office, I just do a few simple stretches from the book. Some mornings I only have 15 minutes, and I choose a few from each section. The poses are easy to understand, the descriptions are well written. This book is simple, yet powerful.

It helped me change my unhealthy, fast-paced life.,

This review is from: The Little Yoga Book (Paperback)
Living in the fast-paced city of LA, working a the fast-paced industry known as show-biz, I never thought I'd have the time or the inclination to slow down for even ten or twenty minutes a day to focus myself let alone to breathe. Dillman managed in her book to lead me easily and entertainingly into trying out yoga. Now it seems that I have more time and I get more done than ever before. I've given several copies to friends, and they've all thanked me.
