Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Mr. Little hears a knocking and a growling in the engine of his car; when he lifts the hood, he finds a lion and a woodpecker. Next he investigates a whistling and humming noise that comes from inside his car, and discovers a bear asleep on his front seat. So Mr. Little's odyssey goes, as he clears mice, an elephant, a cat and a snake from his vehicle. All is finally quiet, but the car won't start. So the animals push it along until it roars to life. The lift-the-flap format reveals all the fun; the car's parts are clearlythough not intrusivelylabeled, from headlight to rear license plate. This will appeal to young car enthusiasts who are already full of "what's-this-for?s" and "what's-that?s" while parents are driving.

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3 A lighthearted and entertaining addition to story time. Mr. Little's bright yellow sedan is infested with lots of noisy animals hiding in various parts of the car. He, and children, discover what is causing each noise when flaps are lifted. The colorful illustrations extend the simple text, and the expressions on Mr. Little's and the animal's faces add to the humor of the story. In addition, each part of the car is unobtrusively labeled, so children can learn the names of various parts. Young children will eagerly reveal the animals that lurk beneath each flap, and will appreciate the identification of the parts of a car. Gayle D. Celizic, Roosevelt School Library, Cleveland
