This review is from: Littlest Pet Shop Virtual Electronic Digital Pet Toy (Similar to Tamagotchi) Cat (Toy)
I have a daughter who got one of these for her birthday from a friend. It is not the sort of thing I would normally go out and buy. What an entertaining gadget!!! The little character moves through a tiny LCD pictured world. It has needs (eating, sleeping and, well, elimination, which my children find hysterical) and there are many, many little activities for the digital pet to do. Some activities are quite simple, for example you watch the pet scratch a scratching post when you select that activity. And there are some are pretty tricky games (at least for adults), for example, where you use directional buttons to get your pet to maneuver through a maze-like slide. The packaging says there are over 25 different little games in this toy. It is not intended to be an overtly educational toy. However, the directions are rather simplified and there is quite a bit of discovery and learning through trial and error as you move throughout this little digital world. I suppose could go one of two ways- it could be wildly exciting and fun, which was our experience, or wildly frustrating. Doing activities and playing the games earns little virtual stickers that are kept in a little virtual sticker book. In addition, if a friend has one of these as well, when the two metal contacts on the back of the game touch the contacts on the back of another game some cute grafics come up and each pet gets a "visitor stamp" in their virtual book as well. These appear on the internet in a crazy-wide variety of prices. I think anything over 12-14 dollars is too much.
