We have bought the VIP pets in the past for our daughter. Well, these LPS versions have their own world in which you are only allowed to play in for a total of 30 days total. Even if you buy several animals, unless you make new accounts for each of them, you are limited to 30 days. It took 10 days before I found out that they had changed this site so you made your own pet using some currency. So my daughter will only get to play for 20 days now with all her pets. After that you have to pay a subscription. The process of putting the animal online was so cumbersome that it took me over 30 minutes of my time. Do NOT buy these lame toys.

This Littlest Pet Shop Online monkey is about the size of a football. It's small, cute and my daughter loves it.
So far, my daughter has only been online once. That was enough for me. With this pet, she has a code that entitles her to two silver tickets and a 30 day premium membership. That's right -- 30 days. After that, there is a membership fee. Yes, the kids can play a more restricted game for free, but after 30 days, I'm sure they will be begging for their parents to buy premium. For the premium price parents pay to get online play included in a stuffed animal, we should get unlimited premium membership.
The kids get two silver tickets to make their own pets to play with. They don't just automatically get to see the pet they bought. This defeats the purpose of buying the pet to play with online. The kids like it better when they see the pet they own on screen. Why Littlest Pet Shop just couldn't do that, I don't know. Maybe some kids want to build something totally different, but I believe most buy this particular pet because they want this pet on the screen.
There are lots of different rooms (servers) which list how many buddies are in each room. You know what? All the rooms are empty. Looks like no one wants to play Littlest Pet Shop online. How fun is that to be the only kid online? If you plan on buying this toy, try out their online game, first. It has restricted access for free and you can see what you're missing . . . or not.
Security is another issue. Chatting is allowed. I am okay with preformed phrases, but there is freeform chat that is monitored. I do not want to trust my kindergartener to monitored chat, because I really don't know how well it is monitored. We cannot turn that on or off, it's just on. Parents are given the ability to report abuse. I'm sorry, I don't want abuse to even be possible.
PROS:
+ cute stuffed animal
CONS:
- must build your own pet, the pet you buy doesn't just show up on screen automatically
- only comes with 30 day premium membership
- freeform monitored chat allowed and cannot be turned off
- no on else online to play with
SUMMARY
My daughter takes her little monkey with her everywhere. She doesn't even care to get back online. I'm glad, because I don't want to pay for premium membership. This is really better as just a stuffed animal.
