Terrific Book on the Liturgy of the Episcopal Church,
By "pmcarey" (Conshohocken, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Liturgy for Living (Paperback)
This is an excellent book written on the liturgy of the Episcopal Church. It was originally written shortly before the '79 prayer book was published so Liturgy for Living can function as a great "teaching tool" to learn about the meaning behind the rituals of the Episcopal Church.I highly recommended the book.

In-Depth, Interesting Explanations,
This review is from: Liturgy for Living (Church's Teaching Series) (Hardcover)
Although this book is somewhat dated (referencing as it does the 1976 Proposed Prayer Book), the material remains quite relevant. It begins with a discussion on the Anglican conception of worship and how this concept relates to the liturgy. After some history, it spends time discussing the seven sacraments, the regular services, and how the rites in the prayer book relate to each. The non-text portion is also quite valuable: the references provide an excellent starting point for a study on liturgy. This is precisely what I wanted from this book, and I got it in a logical form with clear prose. If you're looking for a readable reference on these subjects (and the current Episcopal Church teaching series is too cursory for you), this book is a great choice. |
