This book is designed to "break the ice." It originated as four talks given at the Notre Dame Center for Pastoral Liturgy, talks designed for parishioners who found themselves called upon to take an active role in the planning and celebration of parish worship, but who felt that they did not really understand what it was all about. In their printed form they may serve much the same end and reach out to all who are trying to make sense of the liturgy we celebrate. Discussion questions have been appended to each chapter, with a view to encourage exploration of Christian liturgy in liturgy committees and other discussion groups.

After being put in charge as a captain of the mass for our LIFE TEEN 6:45 pm. here at St. Andrews, Coral Springs, Florida, I realized that I needed some expert advise on what I was trying to accomplish. This book answers the beginning of the church, old rules new Vatican II policy about the Liturgy and how all things need to be renewed to apply itself to the 'church'. It also answers 'who the church is ?'; 'how we get caught into indiviual as well as community celebration, what the meaning of the mass and liturgy is all about. In other words, the things that the catholic schools did not tell us because they were teaching us about our religion not our faith. We are also taught that Liturgy is not perfect, therfore, because the lay people usually are (us not being Christ) the ones putting the celebration of redemption on and in my mind, God takes over and His will not ours is what is important. We don't have to the this celebration of the mystery of the litiurgy to be different. And lastly, that the liturgy is a service to God and His service to us.The Word. This is very important. The first and second readings always tell us the history of our ancestors Abraham, Moses, Noah, Jacob & Issac. The Gospel tells us what Jesus said or did. This we must take and make it practical in our daily lives. My recommandation is to buy it, keep it, and refer to it offen.
