This review is from: A Liturgy for Stones (Paperback)
David Wright's poems are a delight for any reader who has tended a garden, lost a friend, taught a child to swim, or sought the Kingdom of God. Few poets resonate with me on such a personal, human level while challenging me to seek an authentic experience with the divine. His poem "Chicken Scratches on the Back of Sunday's Bulletin" illustrates this tension perfectly by comparing a loving God to a barnyard hen (as does the verse in Luke 13): "You clatter noises, warnings, lovings we do not understand/as we wander and chatter nonsense ourselves/before returning in fear. / An eagle might kill us; a dove we'd not notice at all./ Clutch us under your mottled wings." Read this beautifully-crafted collection and ". . . hope for a resurrection,/ of the solid world to come."
