Dave and Jim, rock legends make your fantasies come true,
By A Customer
This review is from: Live: 40,000 Headmen Tour (Audio CD)
I had the pleasure of attending the Hartford CT show where much of this cd was taped and it was a magical night, witnessing two of rocks most underrated legends perform great songs. There was magic in the air and it comes through on this cd. 40,000 Headman, Dear Mr. Fantasy, and Low Spark will bring you back in time, yet with a fresh sound for the 90's. Daves Feelin Alright, World in Changes and Only You and I Know show his masterful guitar playing and strong voice. Pearly Queen and Watchtower will keep you rocking. Treat yourself to a great classic rock listening experience. I've played it no less that 100 times in the last 6 weeks.

I was trying to find Mason's old live album "Certified Live" when I stumbled on this title. I bought it thinking it would be a good addition but not expecting a whole lot out of it. Boy, was I wrong. I have had this now for less than a week and I've played it at least 15 times. The set they play here is as good as any live set I've heard. Not only the classic Mason songs but the inclusion of old Traffic songs really set a great tone. My favorites are All Along the Watchtower and Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, although just about any song here is just a blast to listen to. Whether you're a Dave Mason fan or not, whether you're a Traffic fan or not, do yourself a favor and grab this before it disappears.

This is a welcome release by Dave & Jim. The only thing to improve on this would have been Steve Winwood's voice and keyboards. This reminds me of "Welcome To The Canteen" but with much better sound quality. If the producers of this gem would release the entire show I would be a happy man.
Hey, don't take my word for it, buy this one and judge for yourself. A GREAT DISK... Mr. Capaldi, you are missed greatly, carry on Dave.

A real gem,

No doubt about it, this album is a real gem. The recording quality may be the best I've encountered for a live recording and the energy level is way up there, building to a real peak with the last two songs--All Along the Watchtower and Dear Mr. Fantasy--which, alone, make this album well worth the price of admission. If you are a Dave Mason fan, Traffic fan or just a fan of good tunes played by a tight band lead by a great guitarist, don't pass up this album.

Once you buy and play a "live" cd...don't you already know there was an audience present and that they most likely enjoyed the show?OK...aside from this minor complaint (it is all of thirty seconds into the first cut before the first note is played)...this set has some mighty fine stuff on it. Some good versions of old Traffic cuts ("Low Spark..." and "Dear Mr. Fantasy" come to mind) and some other covers (a great version of "Watchtower") make for a fine CD...but please, next time, a bit less applause for ourselves, guys.

Excellent Live Performance .,

So what do you expect at a live concert .. Crowd noise .. that's a no brainer .The crowd does not get in the way of the performance .It is well recorded for a live Cd . I see this is going for close to $30 on Amazon . I just picked this up in a little local store for 6 bucks .. good deal!Fans of Traffic , Dave Mason , and Jim should love this . I sure do .Capaldi was a cool guy and a great writer. I highly recommend the DVD The Last Traffic Jam . R.I.P Jim .

It took me two months to get this CD-as it's availablity is limited-but was it ever worth the wait. Excellent renditions of quality tunes throughout the CD with a little storytelling in between. I expected Dave to be in good form, but what makes this CD so special is Capaldi. His version of "Low spark of high-heeled boys" with Mason's playing is worth the price of this CD alone. What you get here is an intimate performance by two old friends and the listener is the big winner. If you were a Traffic fan this release is a must for your collection. Even if that period escaped your attention, you owe it to yourself to hear these two quality musicians play together. A magical night caught on disk.

I did not find the applause to be an annoyance. Yes, I agree that it could have been minimized at the beginning. Each and every one of the selections are excellent and add a different twist to the studio versions that we may or may not be familiar with.
"Love Will Keep Us Alive" was written by Jim Capaldi and Paul Carrack. That is why it is on this CD. The Eagles, not Poco, did a cover version which led many people assume that they were the writers as well. My only complaint: I wish that it were a double CD with more selections from the tour. As Archie states below,"Whether you're a Dave Mason fan or not, whether you're a Traffic fan or not, do yourself a favor and grab this before it disappears."

This review is from: Live: 40,000 Headmen Tour (Audio CD)
i am a big fan of dave mason's studio material and also his work with traffic but this cd is really poor. dear mr. fantasy is the only semi-good track and it's not great. most of the songs are acoustic not electric. as another reviewer already noted the crowd noise included is very annoying and really detracts from trying to enjoy the music. plus he covers "love will keep us alive" by poco -- where does that come from? your money is much better spent on his studio albums.
