Still pretty good. The highlights are the first two tracks, they've expanded and improvised a bit on Titanic and Saturday Special. The other songs are all good versions, and the 10 minute version of Fight For You is interesting, though not as good as the studio cut. The first three songs are from Birth Control's 1978 LP Titanic, which a lot of people deride as bland disco rock. Admittedly that is not their best LP, but it has its moments, and if you don't hate that album... or even if you do... it is nice to hear alternate versions of the songs. I prefer the live versions here of Titanic and Saturday Special to the studio versions [this is really the main reason for getting Live 79]. Fight For You is from the Increase LP, which is a must have in my opinion. It was the follow up to their 1976 masterpiece Backdoor Possibilities. The final song, of course, is The Work Is Done, from the Operation LP, their second album. The live version here is neither as good as the original studio album version or the longer version from Birth Control Live (1974). However, its a great song and interesting to hear an alternate version of it.
All in all, Live 79 is well worth the 4.95 I paid for the mp3 download. Decent sound quality too. If you were considering getting it in CD format, I would caution against it, as its very expensive and the album only runs about 40 minutes in length. For 5 bucks, the download is a steal, however, and I am glad I got it. Recommended for fans of Birth Control if you like their later albums, Increase and Titanic in particular.
