5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect AC/DC album for non-AC/DC fans
I'll start this out by saying that if you are a serious AC/DC fan, or own more than one of their albums already, you really don't need this album... it doesn't contain any rarities, and most of the songs sound almost exactly like the studio versions (with the obvious exception of the crowd noise). Plus if you're a fan, you've probably seen the band live in concert...

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay live album
AC/DC Live is an okay live album that while containing most of their classics suffers from extensive overdubbing and isn't completely representative of their best work. The performances also lack the fire of their first live album, If You Want Blood, You've Got It.

The album contains their best and most popular tracks from 1979 to 1990 such as the hard-rock...

I'll start this out by saying that if you are a serious AC/DC fan, or own more than one of their albums already, you really don't need this album... it doesn't contain any rarities, and most of the songs sound almost exactly like the studio versions (with the obvious exception of the crowd noise). Plus if you're a fan, you've probably seen the band live in concert already! Therefore, you're not really adding much to your collection (or your AC/DC experience) by buying this. However, if you're like me and like AC/DC's classic hits, but don't really consider yourself enough of a fan to buy their regular albums, this is a gift from heaven! Wrapped up into one album, we have almost all of AC/DC's radio hits... the only notably absent songs, in my opinion, are Shot Down in Flames, and Big Balls (which is sort of a joke anyway). But you can't blame them for not including EVERYTHING, the album is over 70 minutes long already! But it gets better; not only is it full of classic tunes, the songs are performed quite faithfully, with the additional energy of the crowd and the band feeding into the experience without detracting from the music itself. It's good enough already, but compared to many other live albums, such as Nirvana's From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah, where the performances are low quality and the din of the crowd is deafening, this is no less than a masterpiece. Two of the songs, Heatseeker and The Jack, might not be immediately familiar to weekend AC/DC fans, but they're so catchy that after a few listens, you'll love them just as much as the old favorites like Thunderstruck, Moneytalks, and You Shook Me All Night Long. My only gripe about this album is that there's a bit too much of a delay between songs, but that's hardly significant in the face of its strengths: a non-stop chain of beloved rock classics, faithfully performed with energy and excitement by the band, with just the right amount of crowd noise mixed in. For anyone who likes AC/DC's singles, but is hesitant to buy an AC/DC studio album just for the one or two well-known songs it contains... well, this is everything you could ask for! Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC - 'Live' (Atlantic), February 6, 2005
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
Wasn't there like two(2)different versions of this live album put out?Yes,'Live' was a long-awaited release and the only reason I give it a four star rating instead of five is the fact that there is a gap of silence between each and every song. Why don't record companies just make a/any live recording sound as if it came from JUST one show?I love it when a live CD has that going for it.Total of fourteen tunes that were recorded from the band's 'Razer's Edge' world tour 1990-91.Tracks that I enjoyed reliving again and again were their memorable opener "Thunderstruck","Back In Black","Shoot To Thrill","Whole Lotta Rosie"(one of my personal all time favorites),"You Shook Me All Night Long","TNT" and their traditional encore number "For Those About To Rock".One reason that I may not be going ga-ga over this CD is that I've recently located an import(bootleg, maybe?)of a 2-CD titled 'Berlin,2003' and that thing totally rips!!

AC/DC Live is an okay live album that while containing most of their classics suffers from extensive overdubbing and isn't completely representative of their best work. The performances also lack the fire of their first live album, If You Want Blood, You've Got It.

The album contains their best and most popular tracks from 1979 to 1990 such as the hard-rock classics "Back in Black", "Hells Bells", "For Those About To Rock", "Highway Hell", "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", and "You Shook Me All Night Long." It also includes the strongest tracks from The Razor's Edge album, "Thunderstruck" and "Moneytalks." It also contains "The Jack" and "Whole Lotta Rosie", which are great tracks, but there are better versions on If You Want Blood, You've Got It. The only songs from their late-80s albums are an excellent version of "Heatseeker" and "Who Made Who." There are no tracks here from the Flick Of The Switch and Fly On The Wall albums which is unfortunate because tracks like "Sink The Pink" and "This House Is On Fire" would have made this album stronger and more definitive. The 2-disc version of this album is a little better but contains too many tracks from The Razor's Edge album and only one track from two of their best albums Highway To Hell and For Those About To Rock. I'd recommend this to fans who want the greatest hits because most of them are here. But the album sounds way too much polished in the studio and could have been a stronger song collection.

This was the first live album I ever owned, and it has made it nearly impossible for me to listen to studio tracks of anything. Because of ACDC live, I judge a band on live performance above all. Just about anyone can sound good in the studio, but it's a lot harder to sound this good live.
I really recommend this to anyone, even just casual ADCD listener. You'll know all the songs, and you'll get caught up in the excitement of the crowd and the band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Place to Start, June 1, 2000
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
This single disc of live material is extracted from a double disc set recorded during the Razor's Edge tour. In my humble opinion this is a much better buy than the larger set(especially for those new to AC/DC) because it eliminates the more obscure and pretentious tracks. Considering that this is the closest thing to a greatest hits record you're likely to find, it's definitely worth the time and money if you want to see what these guys are really all about. If on the other hand you're already a fan, If You Want Blood is probably the better choice for a truly blistering live performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Live assault on the brain cells, November 16, 2007
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
AC/DC are one of those bands that bring out the wastrel in all their listeners, continually making pretty much the same record time and time again in brilliant fashion - in fact when their career has stumbled it's usually because they tried something a tiny bit different. So it makes sense that a double live CD of this band in full flight is going to stick to the tried and true formula of intellect negating good time heavy rock. And does it ever.

Blasting off with Thunderstruck with huge sound and production values the first CD barrels down the highway to brain cell oblivion in fine style, rendering resistance futile with wave after wave of top notch, blues based boogie metal. Songs like Shoot to Thrill, Back in Black, Who Made Who and Heatseeker - it doesn't matter a devil of a lot what part of the bands career they pick `em from, just about every AC/DC platter has something tasty to feed the adoring hordes that can be heard screaming their lungs out in the background as the Young brothers with Cliff Williams and Chris Slade in the engine room (bass and drums respectively) and Geordie belter Brian Johnson out front as ringmaster lay waste to the punters in the nicest possible way.

As the collection rolls ever onward it becomes apparent that no, there will be no let up, the toe tappin' and head bangin' collection of boogie metal will never stop until there are no more doubters in the arena, all attendees either having long since started bopping along with the bands ever reliable muse or otherwise having fled the building. Disc two - oh just look at some of the wattage on the thing - Hells Bells, High Voltage, You Shook Me All Night Long, Whole Lotta Rosie, Let There Be Rock, Highway to Hell, T.N.T and For Those About to Rock. I mean there are more bona fide metal massacre stompers on the second disc of this release than most bands write in a career.

You may have read between the lines of this review that in some ways I'm not a fan. And you'd be right. The inability to reach out/branch out. The revelling in underachieving low brow culture, the utter denial of anything to aspire to apart from the next drink or bonk. But it's simply undeniable that the world of heavy rock and metal needs at least a few bands like AC/DC to shake things down to a simple brew, a hedonistic explosion of throwaway good times for the sake of it. And this double disc version of the Australian/Scottish (whatever they're claiming to be this week) bands greatest cuts performed raw, live and sweaty is a testament to how a simple plan will work wonders as long as it's a good plan. And this is a band that is seriously brilliant at what they do as this fine collection attests.

4.0 out of 5 stars A taste of the greatness of AC/DC live, single disc style., November 7, 2006
By
Wiseguy 945 (Cedar Rapids, IA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
This is the single disc version of AC/DC live release in 1992 recorded on the popular "Razor's Edge" tour. This song take the best song of the original 2 disc version of this live set. This disc provides a good snipit of the full picture, but hardcore fan would be rocommended to spend the couple bucks extra to get the two disc version. Regular fans, this has the live songs you could be content with, the biggest ones. So enjoy this piece of AC/DC history. Don't forget about the Bonfire box set for a good collection of Bon Scott era live recording.

I'm not the "metalmaniac" I used to be anymore, somewhere along the road I "grew it off me" somehow, but every time I hear AC/DC I feel this strong urge to turn up the volume, and rock away!

"Sin City" never becomes old, "Dirty Deeds..." still rough, "Back In Black" (need I say more??) -and so on and on...

Not a boring moment on this Live-release of one of the greatest Heavy Metal-performing bands ever. All there is to say is WOW!

I'm getting the DVD, the show still brings out the youth in me!

5.0 out of 5 stars A textbook example of a GREAT live album., August 16, 2004
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
Back in 1990, AC/DC put out an album called "The Razor's Edge." This album had such fist pumping tunes as "Thunderstruck" and "Money Talks," and like most bands, AC/DC hit the road after its release in order to support it. Little did they know that this tour would give birth to a tremendous live album.

The album takes a look at the greatness of experiencing AC/DC live. The roar of the audience and the nonstop genius guitar work of Angus Young keep heads banging for over an hour. From the sounds of a thunderstorm in the beginning of the album to the roar of the cannon blasts at the end, this album boils the adrenaline to steam.

Although the expanded live album includes more tracks that the standard CD, this album of 12 unbelievable rock tunes includes all the classics. The audio quality of recording is amazing and you will hard pressed to find another live album that has the testicular fortitude of AC/DC Live.
