An album that makes me want to go back,
By A Customer
This review is from: Live Alive Oh (Audio CD)
I lived in Ireland until I was 10, and I'm now 20 and this album makes me long for "home" more than almost anything else. The ballads are beautiful, the rebel-songs inspiring and historic. The Wolfe Tones were obviously fabulous live, and I regret never getting to see them. This is the next best thing.

A Truly Great Live Album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Live Alive Oh (Audio CD)
This is one of the best live albums that I own. The Wolfe Tones are at their absolute best on this CD. The crowd really adds atmosphere as they sing along (The One Road). I recommend this one.

What do you get when you combine spirit, passion, talent, love of country, and rebelliousness with a live audience? The Wolfe Tones "Live Alive-Oh." Everywhere one goes these days, one is bombarded with shallow, heartless synthesised noise spewing forth from the cavities of talentless, plastic people that some aspiring executive, isolated within the bland synthetic walls of a corporate cubicle, with a really warped sense of humor calls "music." While this may enthrall those suffering from mental impotency, it leaves those of us who hold in high esteem the joy and passion of the human condition out in the cold. If this is the kind of environment you seek, stop right here and return to your game shows and soap operas. If you need more, read on. Be not of concern friends. The Wolfe Tones are an awesome group that you can really warm up to. In fact, I believe that the Wolfe Tones are a textbook example of why Irish folk music enjoyes the popularity that it does. The Wolfe Tones sing of sorrow and hardships, of happiness and hope with equal enthusiasm. Their lyrics will bring a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye. They will also raise your spirits to new heights and make you want to get up and dance and sing along, and they do it all from the heart. 5 gold stars and a standing ovation to the Wolfe Tones for this great CD!

Fabulous CD,
This review is from: Live Alive Oh (Audio CD)
I saw the Wolfe Tones in Waterford last week and I can honestly say they are still fabulous and that their sound has not changed since this 1980's performance in Kilburn's National Ballroom (which has sadly since closed). The performances on this CD are fabulous and some of their best songs are performed. I would recommend this CD to anyone fond of Irish music, though to be fully appreciated they must be seen live.

Wolfe Tones at their best in live setting,
By A Customer

After listening to this, you wonder why the (sadly, now defunct) Irish troubadours didn't put out more live albums. The performances are wonderful, the audience sing-alongs spirited and uplifting (on songs like Broad Black Brimmer and Big Strong Man), and the group's strong nationalist/republican streak refreshing (after hearing so many Irish groups who won't touch politics). And for a laugh, check out the long hair and big mustaches on the cover photo.

This classic record by the Wolfe Tones passes the test of time. It remains as poignant, exciting and fun to listen to now, as it did when it came out many years ago. The collection provides insights into the history, the personal experience and the mood in Ireland from the time the British began to settle and control the country until the early 20th century. If one is into the Celtic culture, then this is a must-have album.

Great CD - Should Have Cut the Long Joke,
This review is from: Live Alive Oh (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite CD's. Wonderful, spirted songs with the joy of the audience present at every moment. Anybody who wonders why the Irish remember their history, need only listen to this CD.
