Simply sublime...,
By Jung Kim (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in America (Audio CD)
I listened to this album on casette tape back in, I don't know, 1992-3, and remember it fondly, and I must say that the album has aged quite well. The first part of the album covers tracks from Kojiki, perhaps Kitaro's greatest masterpiece based on ancient myths about creation of Japan. The latter tracks, including the unsurpassable "Light of the Spirit" (collaborative work he has done with Mickey Hart back in 1987), have a quite "foreign" and cosmic flavor, in contrast to the earlier tracks which have more - how should I put it? - familiar and nostalgic undertone. Live performances have been re-arranged extensively (mostly for the better), so even the listeners who already own Kojiki or The Light of the Spirit should be able to enjoy it.

Kitaro is that and more. Delivering melodies of soft, fast and blendish notes that just transports your imagination to another time.

I have a few other live CD works from Kitaro and enjoy them a lot. I purchased this CD (Live in America) and the music is even better. This is a worthy addition to my collection.

Love of his soul touching music,

I happened by chance on his music in a little shop in Cambria, CA. They had it playing as I walked in. I asked who the artist was and was told Kitaro. That was many years ago. Since then I have collected everything of his I can find. My favorite being Silk Road......I would love to have something current. I have "Live in America"I was fortunate to catch a performance he had in Los Angeles a few years ago. He was magnificent. Would really like to see him in concert again. I would love to receive any and all information on Kitaro as to new albums, concerts, etc. I can be contacted [via e-mail]. |
