I have always been a huge fan of Grant Lee Buffalo and had long since dismissed the possibility of any new product from them. Their solid rock sound reflected Americana in a way I had not heard before or since. For the most part, their music shied away from the trope of love and broken hearts which tends to proliferate in popular music. Having said that, they also recorded some truly heart-wrenching ballads on the subjects of love(The Hook, Honey Don't Think, The Shallow End)and generally being beaten down by life (Happiness, Rock of Ages). In general, their music was a shadowy reflection of times past and featured some of the best song writing I've every heard.

Their first two albums, 1993's "Fuzzy" and 1994's "Mighty Joe Moon" were simply two of the best albums of the 90s. Although not as strong as those albums, their two subsequent releases, 1996's "Copperopolis" and 1998's "Jubilee" were solid efforts with some standout moments. Sadly, the band broke up prior to the release of "Jubilee." Grant Lee Buffalo were always critically well received, but never attained the level of popularity they deserved. Apparently they broke up over pressure by their label to produce more hits. The lead singer, Grant Lee Phillips has released a number of solo albums, most recently "Walking in the Green Corn," which have all been critically praised and are very good in their own right, but, for me, they somehow lacked the solid rock sound of Grant Lee Buffalo.

In 2011, the band reformed for a limited tour in Los Angeles, Dublin, London, Brussels, Copenhagen and Oslo. This release documents their performance at the Royal Festival Hall in London on May 18, 2011.
