4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and stripped of gimmicks, a lovely EP
Jeff Buckley has always had a mystique about him since his untimely death. No recording of his generates this mystique better than the 'live at Sin-E' EP. The first two songs, Mojo Pin and Eternal life, actually sound better than on the album 'Grace' because of the lack of backing instruments. 'Eternal life' inparticular is far more heartfelt and melodic on this EP...

3.0 out of 5 stars nothin' but buckley
If you have just discovered Jeff Buckley and you want more than Grace and Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk this is the place to start. I've enjoyed listening to this EP more than the full length Mystery White Boy. Jeff Buckley has always had a mystique about him since his untimely death. No recording of his generates this mystique better than the 'live at Sin-E' EP. The first two songs, Mojo Pin and Eternal life, actually sound better than on the album 'Grace' because of the lack of backing instruments. 'Eternal life' inparticular is far more heartfelt and melodic on this EP. 'Je ne connais pas le fin' is so innocent and touching, while his mammoth length version of Van Morrison's 'The way young lovers do' is incredible. Just to hear Jeff Buckleys voice towards the end of the song where it rises to impossible tones, is cataclysmic, sends a shiver down my spine every time I hear it. On the minus side, for the price, other songs or out-takes could have been released, but as it is, this is a fine introduction to the astonishing singing and guitar work- it is only him and the guitar- that Jeff Buckley was rightly revered for.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I'd been there, January 1, 2000

Two standout moments on this awesome live EP. 1: The guitar intro to Eternal Life 2: The bit when he's doing the accapella singing on The Way Young Lovers Do - his voice hits an impossible peak while battering his chiming acoustic. You must listen to it. You'll be amazed to think that was done live. Pure genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live at sin-é started a dream..., September 23, 2000

(REAL NAME)
Back in 1993, this beautiful EP came out of nowhere and those who heard it where struck by the emotional purity, the incredible vocals and the great guitar-player this fellow Jeff Buckley was.

With only a guitar, his voice, his angers and his love he could not only hypnotise the visitors at the NY bar sin-é (speak out : shenay), but through this live recording also the rest of the world could hear what an artist Buckley was. It's all magic on this record : from the dreamy ("This is a song about a dream...") Mojo Pin and the furious Eternal Life to the incredible beautiful Piaf-cover "Je n'en connais pa la fin". The final track "The Way young lovers do" is a 10-minute cover of the Van Morrison-classic. It shows the improvising talent and the spontanity that Buckley had and puts yet again his stunning guitar-playing capacities on display.

Although Grace is definitely my favourite album all time, Live at sin-é is to me as important as the later work of Jeff, because it shows the young, less experienced but pure Jeff Buckley before he completely gets sucked into the music business.

Back in 1993, a wonderful EP came out and one of the best musicians ever was born... If you liked Grace, you'll definitely like this. If you've never heard of Jeff Buckley before or you don't like his music, you'd better buy Grace now before you are permanently doomed to be a musical illiterate ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful., May 22, 2001
Most live albums are distracting to listen to because of the audience in the background and the less-than-quality sound. Though you do hear the occasional clapping and cry from the tables at Sin-E, the sound is high quality. The versions of "Eternal Life" (acoustic) and "Dream Brother" are gorgeous. I've had this for awhile, and only recently discovered what gems the two cover songs are. The french song is not your average Buckley cover, but then what IS your average Buckley cover? He sang everything from MC5, Elton John, Billie Holiday, the Smiths...the list goes on. The Van Morrison cover may strike some as wierd at first, but listen, please, because Jeff's voice gets one hell of a workout. Stunning EP from a stunning man. We'll miss you, Jeff.

The first three tracks are spare and subtle; Mojo Pin and Eternal Life in their skeletal forms give the songs new meaning if you've only heard them off of Grace. Je N'en Connais Pas la Fin is beautiful and melodic, a good track to drop in the middle if your burning a compilation. What makes this a three star cd for me is that the last track, a cover of Van Morrison's "The Way Young Lovers Do", just irritates the hell out of me (sorry Jeff). All in all, though, a great addition to your Buckley collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly moving and raw., August 7, 1999
By A Customer
Without a doubt the most moving live album ever put out by anyone. It is just Jeff Buckley and his guitar playing in front of a small audience. it is the epitome of selfless, true and real music. It is the only music that I can honestly say moves me. Rock on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live Magic, July 24, 2000

I'm charmed by this; Live at Sin-e has raised the musical standard for me. Jeff live was an acrobat. In four songs this record presents complete confidence, tenderness and experience. It's genuine to the point of naivete. If Mozart was a poet...I'm hysterical! Heaven be praised!

It was the first Jeff Buckley record i bought, and i was amazed. I bought "Grace" two days later. It's like a voice from heaven, just him and his guitar, improvising for more than 10m. on "the way young lovers do". You just have to have it. As well as the other albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeff Buckley's music is life-changing,mind altering., June 16, 1999
By A Customer
A friend of mine told me about JB, said he made her cry. She introduced me to him on a mix CD she made me.I haven't been able to get past the Buckley tunes. They mesmorize, they make me weak, weep, and dream and love. I am hooked. For any critic who ever had a bad word to say about him...get a new job. He was, hands down, the best vocalist this frightening planet has ever had the honor to have. I am sure he is singing to someone somewhere....he certainly seems to sing to me everytime I play a tune. Thanks Jeff.(and thanks to my friend who introduced me!!!)
