My favorite Coltrane album, The entire band, which includes Eric Dolphy, gives truly inspired and searching prefomances. Coltranes solo on "My Favorite Things" sends me to another realm everytime I hear it, "Blue Train" roars and swings like crazy, some of Dolphy's most imaginative blues work. The sound in the concert hall is excellent. This is the only album I've ever felt obligated to review; for me, its one the greatest jazz recordings, though relatively unknown.

Classic concert, July 13, 2011
This review is from: Live At Stockholm: 1961 (Audio CD)
This is considered one of Coltrane's greatest concerts -- November 23, 1961 in Stockholm -- featuring Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman, and Elvin Jones. If you like Live at the Village Vanguard, then this should be considered a must-have.
This disc is the first concert on that day (HPLP5 in the discography). It consists of Blue Train, Naima, Impressions, and My Favorite Things.
The second concert (HPLP1, not included on this disc) consists of an incomplete version of Naima, Impressions, and My Favorite Things.
The "Live Trane: The European Tours" boxed set contains both HPLP5 and HPLP1 (minus the incomplete Naima) on the first disc of the set.
To my amateur ears, the sound quality on the "Live Trane" boxed set sounds like it has been cleaned up compared to the sound quality on this disc. However, the cleaned up version might lose some of the "color" of the original. So if you prefer your recordings to sound clean, get the version from "Live Trane." If you'd rather hear the original recording warts and all, get this disc.
