Biography

These are very good times for Reckless Kelly. With the release of Bulletproof in 2008, the Austin-based roots-rockers known for the integrity of their musical approach, the hard-core energy of their live shows and the fierce loyalty of their fans, turned up the intensity on their career. The album quickly became their biggest seller, hitting the Billboard 200 and reaching the Top 25 of the ... Read more in Amazon's Reckless Kelly Store

You ain't lived until you've two-stepped to ACDC's "Shook Me All Night" and heard Cody Braun wail on the fiddle. I know it sounds impossible, but Reckless Kelly makes it work. There is nothing generic about this band or this CD. Their original material is fresh, well constructed, and distinctive (not to mention, mighty, mighty tasty). Sure, they do covers of Dylan and Led Zepplin - but not the same tired tunes that every garage band beats into the ground. Willy Braun's bad-whiskey-and-cheap-cigars voice belies his youth; it has a way of etching its way, note by note, deep into your soul. Add Cody's harmony and heart-breaking mandolin and violin, stir in a snare drum ("and only a snare drum"), a solid bass player, and a fabulous guitar player, and buddy, you got yourself a good-time band! Every person that I've taken to a Reckless Kelly gig or to whom I have given "Live at Stubbs" or their first CD, "Millican," absolutely loves this band. BUY THIS CD!

This CD is about worn out, from all the airtime it gets, I may have to get another, this is one CD you will not need to skip tracks, it's starts out cool & only gets better. Covers from AC/DC & Led Zeppelin are great as is the entire CD. If you need a gift for a picky person, this is it.

This album (like all the other RK albums) is incredible. The Fiddle and Mandolin make the sound so full. Willy has the sexiest voice you'll ever hear! All five of these guys are so talented it will blow you away. SEE THEM LIVE!! if you get the chance do't pass it up these guys are for sure my favorite band! Im just waiting for Album #4.

I was one of the fortunate folks in Idaho who got to watch Cody and Willy grow up. I've known thier father Muzzy and thier Uncles for close to 30 years. This record is my favorite so far in large part because of the saloon ambiance derived from the smokey seedy atmosphere of Stubb's. That combined with a sincere dedication to the craft of song writing and performance and you have all the reasons you'll need to continue to support these kids. Hell, if I had never met them this would be one of my favorite records.

I heard Reckless Kelly live before getting any of their recordings. For me it was a treat -- they were playing in a three day music festival and I had never heard of them. They really grabbed my attention with their musicianship, arrangements, and tone. They are a great band that makes music fun to listen to because they have great original music and play/arrange really great covers. Of the many bands I had not heard before that festival, somehow they stuck in my head more than anyone else. I wanted to get some of their music and decided to start with a live album and a couple of their studio recordings.

One of the things that drew my attention about this album was the 16 minute version of the Led Zepellin tune, Whole Lotta Love -- performed as an acoustic tune. I couldn't wait to hear what they did with it. Turns out that is is more like a 8 minute tune and somehow the length of it got mis-represented. As done by them, it is a great rendition of a classic rock tune. The label and the actual length of the tune is a gotcha, but obviously not to the extent that it would lower my rating of the album.

As I listen to the album and recognize a number of the tunes from other performers, I am surprised at how much I like their arrangements of the classic tunes. Theyy do it in a way to make them their own songs -- much the same way that many of the great's (e.g., The Beatles, Etta James, Rodrigo y Gabriella -- to name a few) have done to music written and successfully performed previously. These are not lame renditions of someone else's music that are included to "fill" a CD.

A great album done by a band that is obviously having fun in a way that is contagious to anyone who listens to it.

These hick-rock guys rule! I think the originals are much stronger than the covers but I think you'll like these guys. They are from Oregon but now in Austin, and have a Texas Rock sound that is infectious. I have both albums and wish they had more to buy.
