Best Effort,

This review is from: Live from Austin (Audio CD)
This EP was recorded live at the Steamboat in Austin, Texas back in 1994. Ian Moore has changed a lot in the past seven years, but I believe that this is the absolute height of his recording career. The only thing that I find disappointing in this album is its very short length, barely clocking in at over thirty minutes. Moore is a stunning live performer whose soulful licks on guitar are only surpassed by his voice. Only five songs are on this album. Moore and company open with a hot slide number, "Pay No Mind". The upbeat cover of "Me and My Guitar" is the perfect song to finish off the album - flashy enough to keep you wanting more. Moore uses his voice to dig at your emotions on a haunting cover of "Abraham, Martin and John" added to the end of "Blue Sky". "Satisfied" and "Deliver Me" fill out the rest of the show. Even though three of these tunes are from his self-titled first release, they are by no means the same songs. Like any great entertainer, Moore changes the songs by playing different ideas, longer solos, and adding lyrics. He keeps the music live and interesting. Moore's sound has changed a lot since this recording. If you really enjoyed the old Ian Moore Band, then this is a must buy. The band definitely had it on in late June 1994, and can be heard in this short, but fun, EP.

What Could Have Been...,

This turned out to be a last gasp for an artist who started with an awful lot of promise. The cd includes 2 of the best songs from Moore's debut album, the soulful "Satisfied" and the heart-wrenching ballad "Blue Sky", as well as the torrid blues-rocker, "Me and My Guitar." Moore also shows off his gospel-drenched vocals on "Deliver Me" and "Abraham, Martin & John." Unfortunately, after this release, Moore chose to go the experimental route, & he's never been the same.

This record rocks. He plays great, sings great, and does it all with really great style. It's probably too short, tho. Also, It's not really representitive of an Ian Moore show anymore. He's just grown so much since then.

This live album truly reflects the energy and emotion of his live performances. There is not a track on this album that would be considered less than spectacular. Highlights: Me and My Guitar - Unbeleivable guitar playing. Blue Sky/Abraham, Martin & John - A song that will almost bring you to tears. I was lucky enough to actually witness Ian playing this song live in Wichita, KS in 1995?. He does such great justice to this classic tune.

Unbelievably Incredible,

Very few discs give me goosebumps on my face...this is one of them. Every song had the energetic and fluid vibe that makes Ian's live show so captivating. The "Deliver Me" rendition is nothing short of incredible- the whole band grooves relentlessly. The guitar work on "Me and My Guitar" is worth all the money you pay for the disc. A must have for people who dig Texas Grooves. This is a very safe bet if you're not sure whether to order it or not.

I recently heard Ian Moore while listening to a blues channel on XM satellite. I bought the "Live From Austin" and the self-titled "Ian Moore" CD's. I have no complaints. This would be the ONLY time in my 47 years that I made a purchase for one song and ended up loving every song on both CD's. Ian Moore's style is awesome!
