I have been a fan of Idina Menzel's work off and on. I loved her voice in Wicked, enjoyed her in Rent, and saw her on Glee. Not only does this album feature mentions of all three, but she does some really good versions of the songs from each show. I found her banter between songs to keep my attention and the story throughout the album has good flow. I would highly recommend this album to any fan of Menzel's and to anyone who is interested in hearing a sample of her works.

I love Idina's voice & saw this show in New York last year. In person she was very personable & it was fun to hear the stories between songs, but as a long term listener I think it detracts & causes one to want to fast forward to the music. It worked best on "Where or When" when she does a duet with her husband, Taye Diggs. I have to agree with another reviewer that the break on "Poker Face" ruined the song. If you purchase the DVD, then the stories are more tolerable. Also, "For Good" needed the orchestra. It's such a beautiful song, but hearing Idina sing it all alone with no accompaniment was dull. I'd love for Idina to release a new original music cd, but with keeping her Broadway/show tune style in mind.

I would have given this a 5 star review had the cd flowed better.

I watched this special on PBS and enjoyed it. I happened to run across the mp3 on Amazon and purchased it on a whim. I'm so happy that I did, because this collection is very entertaining and enjoyable. All of the banter between songs has been preserved from the TV special; maybe that's not everyone's cup of tea, but I find it adds to the casual warmth of the performance. I've been a fan of Idina's since "Rent" and this collection does not disappoint.

Idina does this in Toronto and it's GRAND. She's fun, too - the stories she has for the audience about her journey to Rent and Wicked are kicky as heck and there's a story she tells of encounters with Beyonce AND Barbra Streisand @ the Kennedy Center Honors that is a riot.
Then there's the singing - one of our best in this country, IMO, and I wasn't even a fan of Rent, so I'm speaking for or about Idina & her album, 1000% worth the purchase.
Thank you, Ms. Menzel! : )

3rd time listening to the recording at work as i type this. Nice treat. Feels like you're right next to the stage and guess you just have to use your imagination to picture the rest. Thanks for a great recording session. BTW there is dialogue between the Idina and other performers which is not bad at all. I've herd dialogue with other live recordings that are just painful to hear, in Menzel's case i think it adds to the work.

I saw Idina Menzel recently. Her concert was very entertaining and, as always, her vocals were outstanding. I made
the mistake of purchasing the CD instead of the DVD. I'd imagine there are several songs on the DVD that were left off the CD. Additionally, while her banter with the audience is fine for viewers, I found it a waste of space on a CD. I would have enjoyed hearing several more songs instead. My advice to prospective buyers, or fans of Idena, is to buy the DVD. I listen to CD's in my car whenever I drive. Although I enjoyed most of the selections on this CD, there were several that would be better seen than heard. I rated this CD 3 stars.

Way to much talk. It may work on a DVD where you see what is happening but it ruins the CD.

I don't need to be sold on Idina Menzel - I love her voice and her style. I was looking forward to playing this and couldn't have been more disappointed - not in Menzel's performance, but the sound is awful - so awful that you can't get past the poor recording to hear the music. I thought there was something wrong with my kit until I put in another disc. The issue isn't live vs. studio - I have 50 year old live recordings sound far superior to this one. I really don't know whether the issue is the recording or the engineering and production (I suspect the recording) but somebody involved really did a very, very poor job.
