it's better than it sounds,
By A Customer
This review is from: Live at the Bitter End (Audio CD)
i just listened to the samples of the songs on this cd, and i was really disappointed. the cd sounds so much better! i like burlap to cashmere because they have a unique sound (which some have likened to the secular artist Rusted Root, though i'm not too familiar with them) and lyrics that strike me. the percussion is one of the most unique qualities about the group; it's hardly ever the snare-and-bass combination that you would find in ordinary pop music, and it's never synth. all the songs have rhythm, though i admit that i like "chop chop," "basic instructions" and "anybody out there" better than the other two. if you like the group, however, i recommend the "anybody out there" cd instead of this live cut. there are more songs on the actual album.

Stop what ever you are doing and get this CD,

Having seen this band of 7 cousins and friends play over 6 times, both indoors and out, I would have to agree with what they say about themselves. "The band has deep roots in folk and world music. Simon & Garfunkle, Harry Chapin, and Cat Stevens are some of the core infuences on the song writing. Combine this with arrangements full of flamenco guitar, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and Greek bazouki music and a very unique but reminiscent sound is created."

This is a great CD The group is underappreciated. They're creative and their music is realistic but not horribly depressing. A great buy!
