Fantastic Live Jazz, August 15, 2000
This review is from: Live at the Blue Note (Audio CD)
The David Morgan Trio is simply fantastic! It's very rare to hear a contemporary band play it as well as the classics but on Live at The Blue Note they really do. A must for any fan of live Jazz.

Rewarding performance by piano trio + guitar, January 15, 2003
This review is from: Live at the Blue Note (Audio CD)
David Morgan, a piano student of Ellis Marsalis while at the University of New Orleans, demonstrates the fruits of his education, performing five of his own compositions and two other tunes, including a compelling version of Bud Powell's "Hallucinations". Ellis' youngest son, drummer Jason Marsalis, and bassist David Grossman provide steady drive and rhythmic counterpoint. Guitarist Peter Bernstein joins the trio for most of the tunes, and his solos add pleasant contrast to this rewarding trio performance. None of the originals are overly memorable, but they are well-crafted and the various grooves allow the participants to fully demonstrate their musical abilities. Morgan solos pleasingly within the post-bop harmonic framework.
