OK.It's hard for a club date to mkatch the excitement of of say Duke or Dizzy's live Newport LP's but this was one led by one of Italy's top elder statesman on the trumpet (and best player of any age) it's one where you say "Yeah if I was there I'd be talking about it for days with friends".Anchored by Vets Kenny Barron,Ira Coleman,and Vic Lewis (my vote for most underrated/least visible yet most prolific drummer out there) with young gun (at the time) Seamus Blake this mid 90's set if ine with the players giving it a go with:

3. Just Friends
4. Body and Soul
5. Phantoms
6. Voyage
OK it doesn't break ground and one should expect a mid 60's Basso Valdambrini or Scoppa-Santucci like LP but it's fine jazz by pro's.If you can find it an LP in the mode I was speaking of was re-released briefly on Schema "A Portrait Of Franco Ambrosetti" and in my mind showed why hard bop's creativity and importance began to shift to Europe by the mid 60's whereas the American Originators were leaving it for "The New Thing" and heading topward Fusion.Find a copy of that CD or (if can afford it)( the LP and you won't be sorry!
