Split Lip Rayfield Live (as the original trio),
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Live at Bluebird (Audio CD)
This album was recorded live in Colorado in 2006 around the time that guitar player Kirk Rundstrom found out that he had cancer. This album features the original lineup of Kirk (Guitar), Jeff (Gas Tank Bass) and Eric (Banjo) that released the self titled album in 1998. Wayne Gottstine had left the band during this time so this recording does not feature him or any of his songs. That fact, combined with the fact that the Gas Tank Bass is not very well recorded, caused me to rate this as 4 stars. The performance, however, is fantastic. The trio is tight, fast and furious and they tear through a large set of SLR classics including some rare songs like "Grip" and "SOB". This album also contains what I feel is the best version of "Drink Lotsa Whiskey" with Eric adding some harmonies that are not on the studio version of the song. If you are a fan of this band, you should own this CD without question. If you are just getting into the band you should probably start with some of their earlier studio work like the self titled album or "In The Mud" and work your way towards this one. Overall, this is a terrific live album by one of the best bands of the last 20 years. I highly recommend it.
