2.0 out of 5 stars without even seeing this I wouldn't buy it
Being there last year I give this a big thumbs down. I am sure some of the footage would be good but there are so many better and more popular artists then some of the ones that were picked. I know its hard to pack in all the great music from the weekend into 2 discs but it's missing Bob dylan, String Cheese, Yonder Mountain String band, Umphrey Mcgee etc... By far this...

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe all you read, June 30, 2005
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
Many will discount this DVD, explaining to you how more popular bands or well known songs should be on this compilation. While this may be true, I would urge you and those giving such reviews, to remeber what Bonnaroo is really about - Music. As a festival Bonnaroo has tried to bring a mixture of genres and artists, new and old. The only guiding principle deciding which artists, is one question: "Do they play great live music?." I think you'll find that this DVD is jam packed with great footage, sure to keep you jammin all night, even if you don't know whose singing your new favorite song. Don't be scared like some reviewers, thats not what Bonnaroo is about, buy the DVD, you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible DVD!!!!, October 4, 2005
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
Although this DVD does not take on a documentary style form as does the 2002 dvd, the performances are as incredible if not better than the 2002 dvd. my favs include doc watson, north mississippi, ween, moe., primus, burning spear, femi kuti. and to top it all of robert randolph and the family band with eric krasno is the most incredible guitar work ive ever seen. even though you dont get to see daniel play slap bass like in the 02 dvd, it still rocks! This dvd has little commentary abt side amusements at the festival and hardly any interviews. but the special features on it are magnificent. A great interview with Yonder Mountain String Band, however too bad they got snubbed on the dvd. Also, watch the Dead's interview. Phil Lesh's acerbic comments will give you a good laugh. The sound is magnificent too. No drawbacks to getting this one but the 02 dvd does have more of a narrative and informative take on the festival.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST OF THE BONNAROO DVD'S THUS FAR, March 2, 2006
By
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
Why? The lineup of artists is excellent, with the entire spectrum of groove found here. The performances are excellent bar none, not just on a musical perspective, but how the DVD has captured the artist and audience. I don't need to list the performers-you can read it yourself. But I can tell you that the quality of film and sound is perfect, especially if you play it through a PA or good sound system and TV (I know you'll have one in this day and age). The artitsts are especially on focus here, and the jams are in their entirety, so you can see and learn from their masterful work on their respective instrument or vocal. The DVD also interlaces shots of the crowd members and their sometimes estatic outbursts (and lots of shots of babes, too!) This is a HIGHSIERRABASSPLAYER MUST BUY!

This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
Best live concert footage on a DVD since the "Last Waltz".
One highlight after another. I'm not a Dave Mathews fan but,
his version of "Trouble" w/ all the help he gets is worth the cost
of the DVD alone. And the rest is consistently excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Incredible Bonnaroo DVD, June 3, 2005
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
Id like to reiterate what everyone has already said aboutt his wonderful DVD. Each year the collection on DVD from Bonnaroo exceeds the previous one. This is no exception. Bonnaroo has gone back to the 2 DVD format and LOADED them with content. The only discrepency is that the Trey song is actually First Tube...at least mine is. Which is no problem, seeing as how it was the bombast finale to the entire weekend. The camera work is incendiary and the editing is flawless. On alot of music DVDs there are far away shots where you can obviously tell its stock footage from another song...this is not the case here. Every performance is seamless. See you at Bonnaroo 05!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vibe, May 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)

I know some of the big names are absent on this DVD... Dylan, Wilco, etc., but the stuff that is on here is pretty cool. Plus, the best thing about Bonnaroo, IMO, is getting to see and hear a lot of new groups, the variety of which is fairly well represented.

I've just watched it once, but really enjoyed songs by My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon, Black Keys, Los Lonely Boys, Trey, Gillian Welch, North Mississipi Allstars, Guster, etc..

I'm headed to Bonnaroo this year, and the back stage stuff, and shots of the festival itself are great. Cant wait to get there.

5.0 out of 5 stars About perfect, May 6, 2007
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
This dvd is great for giving a taste of what Bonnaroo is. A taste is all a movie of the festival can hope to offer, because actually being there is such a soul-stirring experience.

The photography and editing during the performances are impressive and very fun to watch. No annoying cut-aways or effects. Many of the songs chosen for the DVD are great choices. Steve Winwood's "Dear Mr. Fantasy" is breathtaking. Trey Anastasio, Ween, Primus, Taj Mahal, Galactic, and Gillian Welch are awesome too. I was surprised by Los Lonely Boys, who deliver some heavy, rockin' blues.

Definitely worth the money. Putting it on always satiates my appetite for the next festival. Now all we need is for Danny Clinch to put together some 05 and 06 DVDs!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars best 3 days of music ever, April 11, 2005
By
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
i know this dvd isnt even out yet, but i wanted to say somethin anyways. im giving it 5 stars, because i was at the Bonnaroo festival in 2004 and can guarantee this dvd will be perfect. im sure it will have its critics, but i cant imagine trying to pick only 2 discs of performances to put out. of course there is going to be tons of stuff we all wish they would have kept, but if we had to keep all the good stuff, this set would be something like 50 discs! but take it from me, i was there, and i live 20 miles down the street from the location of Bonnaroo, theres no way this dvd can bring down what the actual experience was. People who were there are gonna love this thing, and those who werent will just as much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where's Bob Dylan?, May 18, 2005
By
This review is from: Live from Bonnaroo 2004 (DVD)
I'm sure they did not leave out Bob Dylan on purpose, but that was one of the best parts of the festival for me. I had never seen him before and it was like a religious experience or something... anyhow, i'm sure it will be a great DVD, but only 4 out of 5 stars because of the absence of Dylan.
