This set contains both a CD and a DVD recording of a live BBVD show. It captures nine stellar musicians at the top of their craft. The sound quality is crystal clear. This is easily one of the best live recordings that I have ever heard.

I recently was fortunate enough to see BBVD at a local club. They blew through roof off the joint. Over 50's who hadn't gotten up out of their seats in years were dancin' and jumpin' by the end of the show. This set captures the magic of that night.

The DVD was filmed using two hand-held cameras and a camera on a crane for over-the-crowd shots. However, the spirit of the band shines through, lighting up with stage with their sheer exuberance.

There is also a short film done by a member of the group about how the group was formed. It gives an intimate portrait of the band's early years.

Buy this CD. Buy a copy for your friends, your mother and your dentist. I guarantee you won't me disappointed. If there is any justice in this world, this is the album that will break this band huge.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Big Bad Boys At The Top Of Their Game, August 6, 2004
This review is from: Live (Includes Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I first discovered Big Bad Voodoo Daddy after their appearance in the Vince Vaughn movie "Swingers" and have never looked back. These guys are the real deal. If you like swing music these guys can just flat out bring it.

This is the same performance that appeared on DirecTV a few months back, with a few added tracks. BBVD always put out good records, but this show captured here on CD and DVD let you know there was no studio trickery involved in their sound on the studio albums.

Bottom line is you'll probably never see a finer live band, high energy, good music and great musicians. Don't wait, buy it!! It's a bargain price for a CD and a DVD!

BBVD is one of the guilty pleasures of the techno age: a throwback swing band that knows how to rock. This set captured on two handheld camaras gives the viewer an in your face experience that is miles ahead of much that is out there today. Headed by Scotty Morris the band performs 17 selections in a lightning quick seventy minutes and leaves the audience craving more. The set includes all the hits from the CD's and some surprising new twists. If you're a fan of swing this is definitely a show that you should check out. As the band puts it Go-Daddyo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, August 5, 2004
This review is from: Live (Includes Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
To the guy asking about the 2 discs.
One is a CD, the other is indeed the DVD (video) of the same concert. A clue would be the same exact set list listed on both discs. Anyway, just saw these guys in Harrisburg. The smile never left my (or my wife's) face the entire show. The DVD concert is great. Strong recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Bad Voodoo Daddy = BIG FUN, June 24, 2006

The first word that comes to mind when I think of BBVD is FUN.

I first heard this band on the radio. I was hooked immediately...and so were my wife and children. I bought two of their CDs from Amazon.com: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Save My Soul. And we've been listening to --and singing along with-- them ever since.

My toddlers tend to sing BBVD songs in public...without inhibition! It's only slightly embarrasing to stroll the grocery store with three kids screaming out the lyrics to Go Daddy-O. But I really can't blame them. The music is contagious!

Just last week, my wife and I caught BBVD live at the House of Blues in New Orleans. It was an incredible performance that kept the crowd smiling. We had so much FUN! BBVD = FUN! There is no other way to say it.

I admit that I was hesitant to purchase this CD / DVD at first, since I already owned most of the songs. But, after seeing them live, I bought this CD the very next day...and we love it.

There is just something about a live performance, even when you're listening to a recorded "live" performance. On stage, BBVD generates some serious energy, and you can't help but be pulled right into it.

The sound quality on both the CD and the bonus DVD is excellent, and the video on the DVD is crystal clear. As a matter of fact, the DVD provides a better view of the band than the one I had "live" at the House of Blues. The music content on both the CD and DVD is the same, though the DVD has extra features like a short film on the band's beginnings. For a two-disc set, the price can't be beat.

If you are into swing, or just need a good dose of happy music, treat yourself to this Live performance of the Kings of Swing. Their fun music can't be beat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long awaited DVD performance that does the band justice., November 24, 2004

We've all been waiting for this one: a CD/DVD combo from the kings of contemporary swing. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's clarion adaptations of original jazz standards have incorporated Big-Band music into the households of punk-rockers and toddlers alike. They've been pushing solid for a decade with 8+ pieces, and put on full-stage shows clad in pinstripe suits. Nothing too large or small, BBVD has done a tune or two for Disney, but they've also played just about every fair and festival in the last decade in addition to relentless full-tour club and theater gigs. Recorded LIVE 5/15/2003 at the Majestic Theater the DVD captures the band live and in their prime, showcasing even a gratuitous sax solo by baritone player Andy Valley. Their ability to capture an audience is uniquely captured with these performances, and is recommended to any fans of the swing revival. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was the cover story for Maximum Ink music magazine by Dave Leucinger in June of 1998. all content copyright www.maximumink.com.

I love this album!!!!! Listening to this album makes you feel like you are right there at the show. The musical arrangements are great, that big band swing sound is present and the sense of humor of the bandmates is evident. You don't see any better than this is music today.

5.0 out of 5 stars And no one swings as hard to the big bad voodoo band..., October 3, 2005
This review is from: Live (Includes Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is one of the best bands that I have ever heard. I stumbled upon them by accident and came to prefer their swing style over my preferred rock music. My absolute favorite album produced by BBVD is Live. Most typical live albums have a lack of quality due to studio recording for the mainstream pieces, but this album does not. Their revival of Big Band era music not only produces crystal clear songs, but also ignites the fire in all people that love swing dancing and jazz. As all fans can justify, never does their passion disappear from album to album. The vivacious vocal performance of Scotty Morris, the drumming of Kurt Sodergren, and the sax sounds of Andy Rowley keep me in musical awe. Each concert is performed entirely with spirit, as is most true swing music. The impact of the Live album is great seeing as how it was the first live album produced by the band in its near 16 year run. Mixing old and new musical equipment, the booming sound leaves listeners alike baffled that this is a live album. Two particular songs from this album, Mr. Pinstripe Suit & So Long, Farewell, Goodbye, are representative of the trademark sound that this band produces. Mr. Pinstripe Suit allows the listener to feel the passion of all the instruments, such as the sax sections, the trombone, and the ever distinctive trumpet playing of Glen Marhevka. This piece also represents the bands style of wearing full out pinstripe suits and fedoras while performing at every concert they have done. So Long, Farewell, Goodbye has the ear of every listener because this is the common exit piece of BBVD at every show. Their total passion and heart is expressed though this upbeat tune which also has the audience up and participating in the piece. Lyrically, all of the music by this band coincides with a great deal of Big Band where love is the central focus. The popular music of this area does not leave much for being romantic and lyrically brilliant, that is why BBVD is the band for me. BBVD had the power to shift your perceptions on jazz and put them in a new gear which has me listening to other such great bands like Royal Crown Revue, Brian Setzer Orchestra, and the Toasters. BBVD seems to share a ton of similarities with Royal Crown Revue in that they have the same passion in playing music compared to artist that just lip sync their music because of their sheer lack of devotion to music. The album that introduced me to BBVD was This Beautiful Life and it is a very great album which will let you sample some of the bigger hits of the band. Trust me, I was not a jazz type person, but this band had the power to change me into a jazz loving person.

I already own BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY CD's. I bought this one because of the DVD of their live show included. I have seen them in concert 4 times now. The DVD is their standard show...lively and very entertaining. They are excellent musicians. Great swing music if you like it, and I do.
