A great way to discover a great band, July 5, 2005
This review is from: Live in Brussels (Audio CD)
Shows nada surf being fabulous performers live, because many of the songs sound even better in this live recording than in the studio version.Impressive is Caw`s voice above all, showing the " popular " emo kids that this man can actually sing.Shows too that they`ve permanently toured the world because both guitarist and bassist speak perfect french during the breaks.Recorded in Brussels, Belgium,Europe where they have a loyal fanbase.Includes " popular" played in a way much more indie pop than Weezer-like.
Check out what a good live act is.

Steep Price, Solid Live Set, August 2, 2007
This review is from: Live in Brussels (Audio CD)
With the popularity of lo-fi rock bands and/or indie bands... it is very suprising Nada Surf is not among them. Yes they made a popular song in the 90s called "Popular" of course. But this band has a unique variety of music. They are like Snow Patrol without the Scottish accents and power production. Nada Surf is raw, yet elegant. I'm not sure if that's the right word, but this live set covers a variety of the music taking from their previous 3 albums "The Proximity Effect" "High/Low" and "Let Go". There is nothing from "The Weight is a Gift" obviously (since this was released well before).
The live set basically takes pretty close to all of the highlights from each of the 3 albums mentioned above. The best performances are from "Let Go" (but that's probably because it's my favorite Nada Surf album). "The Proximity Effect" features equally good performances by the band. Not a whole lot is missing if you are a Nada Surf fan. Only "Paper Boats" "Neither Heaven Nor Space" "Mother's Day" and "Bad Best Friend" are really absent from an otherwise solid performance.
I see only the price turning people away from being this. $20 (the lowest current used price) is steep for any CD, no matter how great it is. Very few are worth the high price. I see only Nada Surf fans paying that much for this live album. Others might want to wait for it to go down to at least $10 or $12 (plus shipping).
