More About the Author

Thank you for visiting my Amazon Author page.
I'm Jane Martin, a respiratory therapist and educator with over 30 years experience doing my best to help people breathe easier. I started out as teacher, never intending to become a respiratory therapist. But life happened in such a way that back in the day I found myself on a path called respiratory care - and I've been following it ever since.
As a Better Breathers' support group leader and Pulmonary Rehab coordinator I was so inspired by the courage, humor and wisdom of my patients, I knew what I had to do - so I began to write their stories to help others with lung disease who were discouraged, overwhelmed and alone.
I love what I do, writing stories, articles and books for people with COPD and other pulmonary disorders, working with my website, BreathingBetterLivingWell.com, and developing educational programs and materials for people with COPD.
I grew up on the South side of Chicago and now live in West Michigan, not far from the shore of Lake Michigan. I like to take long walks, cook without a recipe and learn about wine. Every so often I get the itch to travel - I find airports fascinating and exciting - but I still love to come home.

Her latest book, "Live Your Life with COPD", combines Jane's unique writing style with the editorials of famed COPD advocate and 'thriver', the late Jo-Von Tucker.

I am a person with COPD and first read Jane Martin's book, "Breathe Better, Live in Wellness" and related to how the people in the stories dealt with their lung issues.

When I found out that Jane wrote another book about COPD I became so excited and I couldn't wait to read it. When I received "Live Your Life with COPD-52 Weeks of Health Happiness and Hope" I read it all the way through...and now I'm going back and reading it for each week for the year I am in. Each week I read one section and use what I've learned.

"Live Your Life with COPD" covers everything - what is COPD, and so many ways to live with it. I need the knowledge that the book gives me, and the encouragement that I can live with COPD. It gives a patient as myself ways to cope when my shortness of breath is a little more than usual or when scary questions pop in my head and I need encouragement to get thru that day. I learned that I will have good and bad days and I am still learning its ok to have a bad day.

Even though I can't do everything I did before my diagnosis, I can use the tips on how to live with COPD; what to do if I'm short of breath, taking my medications, coping with denial, anxiety and oxygen. I am not on Oxygen but if I had to be I've learned that I should not be ashamed to wear it. I use to be ashamed of my rescue inhaler but it gives me relief, so I use it. The book also teaches me how to talk with my doctor and with family members who don't understand; about how it feels to have COPD, my fears, and to find out how they feel.

I recommend "Life Your life with COPD" and think Doctors should read it themselves so they know how it truly is every day to live with a chronic illness and how difficult it can be for young or old to live with COPD.

I have known Jane for about four years now and I have always admired her passion to help those who struggle with COPD. Jane has a wealth of knowledge and experience along with a great ability to relate to the reader. Her latest book, "Live Your Life with COPD", combines Jane's unique writing style with the editorials of famed COPD advocate and 'thriver', the late Jo-Von Tucker. The result is a great book that the reader can relate to and be inspired by. I highly recommend this book for both the person struggling with COPD, and their family and friends as well!

For 34 years I have been a practicing health care professional. My whole career as a general dentist revolves around empowering patients to make their own decisions. This book recognizes where patients are and provides a simple understandable way to deal with the stresses of a terminal disease.

Jane writes about dealing with COPD , but after reading this book, I find that almost any terminal disease could be substituted and the patient would benefit.

It is truely evident that Jane is a health care professional who is concerned with taking the patient from a state of confusion and anxiety to making them as comfortable as they could be.

This book is a "must read" for health care professionals to open our eyes to the "real life" of the patients we treat.

Jane has dedicated her life to helping those suffering from COPD and other breathing difficulties. I myself do not have COPD but because of an accident that left me paralyzed 31 years ago, I have gone through respiratory infections and pneumonia. Nonetheless, her new book shows there can be hope and happiness living with COPD. The book is a weekly guide covering 52 weeks of helpful advice, support, so much more. What shines through is Jane's caring for those of us who do suffer and it's a blessing to know she is on our side, like being in the trenches with us. Anyone with COPD or any respiratory ailment should read this book. It can be life-changing.

I have read this book and recommend it to everyone not just people with COPD. Everyone who reads this book can learn something from it. If not for themselves but for their loved ones. I have learned that COPD does not have to be a death sentence. This book has taught me what COPD actually is. This book will teach you to be more positive and to break things down into steps. Your Life with COPD 52 Weeks of Health, Happiness and Hope is a step by step instruction guide that helps you get through the stuggles one is faced living with COPD. I believe in this book and believe anyone who reads it will benefit from it.

My sister is battling COPD and I ordered this book to try and understand the disease and how to cope with it. It is full of information on the disease. I haven't read the entire book, but what I've read has been very helpful. I'm very glad I ordered this book.
