If you enjoy live music, this set is well worth the money.,
This review is from: Live in Chicago (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
The CD has 21 songs and all of the concert chit chat. The DVD has the entire concert, plus MTV short feature, plus all the videos from Pretty.Odd. The DVD menu is excellently structured, giving the viewer the choice of watching the whole concert or choosing songs a la carte. If you enjoy live music, this set is well worth the money.

Fun is the name of the game with this CD/DVD. These boys are best when playing with minds and ears and a throwback look at one of the great sounds music has to offer. Just when you think you want to move on they suck you back in to their world. Fantastic photos and DVD footage.

My 13 year old daughter loves this CD/DVD package. I have listened to and watched it with her and while it is not exactly my type of music it does have entertainment value. I'm sure it was not made with a 52 year old man in mind but it does put a smile on my girl's face and that is what it is all about.

Comparing with the first album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out and it's concerts (like Live in Denver) this is really different. I really like this DVD. Shows us the best of the two first albums of Panic! At The Disco. I really recommend this if you like Panic. You won't be disappointed.

Some of the songs are reworked, but not in an interesting way. Take But It's Better if You Do, the solo in the middle of the song is changed to a boring fill and the rest of the song is just as bad. I used to love this band in jr. high, but now I see that they are just another run of the mill pop act. Though Ryan Ross, the primary song writer did have some very interesting lyrics on their first album; Build God Then We'll Talk, But It's Better if You Do, Nails for Breakfast Tacks for Snacks for example, the rest of the music is lacking something, something special.

This CD/DVD set is only for the true fanatic of Panic! At the Disco. (PATD for the drones.)
This group is what is wrong with the consumable music industry, and this live performance proves it. Take a band with fragments of pretentious ideas, add circumlocution, stir with near complete lack of musicality and you get this half-baked musical act and this sorry performance. Of the myriad issues with this band, the main irritant is the lead singer. This person sings so out of tune and changes register with no forethought or discretion; after listening to only a few songs it becomes clear that he has no technique, training, or natural ability. Unfortunately, with the exception of the drummer, the same can be said for the rest of the band: they have no training and even less in the way of ability. Yet, if the clothes look cool, or the haircut is in style, or the management and A&R persons think it will sell then it is signed, recorded, sealed and shipped by the ton to your local Best Buy (if they still sell CDs by the time you read this) for the masses to consume under the banner of "entertainment." This is written and performed by the musically illerate. To claim them to be mediocre would be a step up. |
