5.0 out of 5 stars Like being there
If, like me, you are ALREADY a big fan of Patsy Cline, what this CD will give you is a sense of what she was like as a performer. Not as a singer on the starched, staged Grand Ole Opry; not as a recording artist in the studio, but as an entertainer. You hear what her fans of the day bought a ticket to hear. Yes, the audio quality is inferior (it was 1961, after all)...

3.0 out of 5 stars I Fall To Pieces Each Time I Hear Her Sing

For those of us of a certain age (growing up in the early 1960's) the timeless voice of Patsy Cline, whether we were aware of it or not, formed the backdrop to many a school dance or other romantic endeavor. I was not a fan of Cline's, at least not consciously, growing up but have come to appreciate her talent and her amazing voice. In another review in this space I...

Yes, the audio quality is inferior (it was 1961, after all) but if you want to get to know a side of Patsy Cline that you won't hear on her "Greatest Hits" this is a must-have. As most other fans, I only wish more locked up, live PC material would become available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go beyond Patsy's hits!, April 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Live at the Cimarron Ballroom (Audio CD)
Patsy Cline was involved in a head on collision on June 14, 1961. She was almost killed and was at many points near death. She may have had a near brush with death, but that didn't stop Patsy. She had most of her tour dates canceled at that time. Except for Tulsa. Still healing and recovering, On July 29, 1961, Patsy made her 1st apperance since her near-fatal car wreck. While Patsy was in the hospital, her latest record, "I Fall To Pieces", reached number 1. With "I Fall To Pieces" a number 1 hit for Patsy, she preformed it twice that night.

The opening number is "Come On In". Patsy's traditional opening number. On into the preformance, Patsy tackles classic country songs, and even pop numbers as well. Such as "Shake, Rattle, and Roll", and "Stupid Cupid", which were both big pop hits.

Patsy gets personal towards the end of the preformance explaining her car accident. Overall, the CD is only for REAL Patsy Cline fans who want to go beyond the hits. You need to respect Patsy before you go out and buy this CD. It is for any country fan, with a little bit of Pop of the side.

It's pure pleasure to hear Patsy Cline in a live environment. Her amazing voice and gregarious personality come through like gangbusters on this disc. While some tracks have problems (feedback etc.) overall I found this to be very listenable and most enjoyable. Cline was a tremendous vocalist and on this disc, it is all the more apparent since its her first show after her car accident. A rollicking show and a must for any Cline fan. I'm quite happy with this disc.

4.0 out of 5 stars The sound quality is no reason to flame this disc., July 9, 2004

It's a reason to dock a star from what would otherwise be a slam-dunk five-star disc. If you like Patsy, treat yourself. If don't like Patsy, you should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare live recording, April 28, 2001
This review is from: Live at the Cimarron Ballroom (Audio CD)
An absolute must for any real Patsy Cline fan. OK so the recording quality is poor, remember this is a rescued recording. What matters is the musical content. This is a real insight into Patsy's live performance. An excellent album regardless of the technical flaws

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Patsy - LIVE !!!, February 16, 2008

It's not too often we can open a door to a former era in live entertainment - an era when stars had talent and personality.

Get ready to be transported back to 1961 and sit back, witness Paty's powerful, upbeat performance -- this woman was born to entertain. It's a totally mesmerizing experience. And you'll find it hard to believe she was in a serious car accident 6 wks prior to this concert. Everything that comes out of her mouth is sincere and heartfelt; it is refreshing and emotional at the same time.

Oh, yes -- there are many technical "glitches" here, but anyone has to admit that a few seconds of dropout or feedback (some of it is a bit loud) are small prices to pay in order to have such a precious live recording. Sometimes she overpowers the microphone and the sound distorts a little, but I'm pretty sure this is just what the live audience was hearing in 1961, which makes this a listening experience. If you want pristine recordings, order one of the "greatest hits" remastered albums. If you want a performance, own this.

It's assumed that you are already familiar with Patsy's catalog of studio recordings, so go ahead and treat yourself to a truly "LIVE" performance which, maybe not surprisingly, does not sound dated.

Listen to how she commands attention from the rowdy audience and really BELTS these numbers! Check out how those "Cimarron Boys" can really pick a tune. It's amazing.

Enjoy your trip back in time -- I sure did!

Many years ago, I read about someone finding this recording in a closet and eagerly awaited its release. While I never understood my mother's love of Patsy Cline, I knew that a good live recording can turn me into a fan of someone if initially I wasn't too interested in them. Thank you bootlegs. I listened to this CD and enjoyed every minute of it. It's a snapshot of a time I didn't live through. The music is great and I relish anything helps connect me the past.
