4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent music, but no big surprises., October 23, 2000

This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
Clan of Xymox returns with the first live album of their 16+year career, and they've definitely pulled out the stops, featuring 19 songs from their full live show of the '99 tour and 2 video clips, spread over 2 discs. Purists of live albums may not be too impressed as the tracks sound very much nearly the same as their respective studio versions, but songs such as "A Cry in the Wind and "Back Door" which were originally heavily layered tracks, come through quite well in CoX's live quartet format. The recording quality is exceelent, with little in the way of overpowering crowd noise, and the video clips are definitely worth watching. Overall this was well worth the $$.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this album and you will be there too!, October 18, 2004
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
Believe it or not but I was there in Mexico DF when they gave a concert. 20.000 yes 20.000 people attended the show! No wonder they love Mexico so much. If you listen to the live album than you hear me scream Nina ! Yes, that is me. I wanted to shout everyone's name of the band but I got silenced by the deafening screams all around me because the music kicked in. You would not know the feeling I had when they played their concert , seeing the stadium size etc. I never thought they would play such a huge crowd! I guess they are the best well known secret on the planet. Actually I read an article from some
Norwegian International free trade expert named Alex Burghoorn , a big shot..I fell over when he mentioned Clan Of Xymox , that he knew the band and loved them , imagine a corporate! anyway he used them in his thesis about globalization and thought COX was the example for him , a band making it their own way , being very international orientated and making it!
This album shows how they do it, how they manage to captivate their audience , how they mesmerize everyone attending their shows. No wonder the crowd goes insane. I DID !!
That concert in Mex DF I will never forget. This album is my personal testament to those days in my favorite neighbor country. Get this album and you will be there too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect set list....Great Quality!, January 13, 2001

This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
The first live CD from Clan of Xymox covers all the songs that I would want to hear in concert--a great set list featuring most of my favorite tracks from all the various lineups and incarnations that the group has been through. All that plus 2 live performance videos! Band member Mojca, who has been responsible for the packaging of their last several releases (note the band name is misspelled on the spine of the "Creatures" CD!) offers her most solid artwork to date, with a booklet heavy on photos and light on text...overall a very pleasing package! If you are a fan this is totally necessary!

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I was there, December 15, 2005
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
What can I say , when I hear this album I simply want to jump into my speakers and be part of the crowd. Yes , I am a true fan but could unfortunately not go to South America where all these recordings were taking place. The crowd sounds wild. I wish I was there.
The live songs are played perfectly and the quality is very good. The crowd luckily does not dominate the recordings too much which is a good thing, afterall you want to hear the music and not the fans screaming. As always 5stars

5.0 out of 5 stars My new obsession, September 7, 2002
By
This review is from: Live (Audio CD)
I have been on a huge goth and industrial kick lately. I have only had the pleasure of hearing this awesome goth band courtesy of a friend of mine who has burned me a couple of goth/industrial cds that included a couple of songs from them. I absolutely loved what I heard. So when I saw their 2 cd live album in the used cd bins today, I thought I would acquaint myself with their music even more so. I was just absolutely blown away by both the music and sound quality of this album. The live aspect of the album is raw and unpolished. It invites the listener to their concert and makes him or her as if he or she was at the concert. Definitely one of the best live albums I have ever heard, and coming from a goth band, "Live" is a classic. Musically, I absolutely loved every song that I heard on both cds. This is everything that goth ought to be. Ronny has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. I will have to say that he is my favorite male vocalist at the moment and definitely one of my top favorite singers in general. It is really difficult to pick a favorite song on this album because they are just too good. I will say this that this live album has made me want to check out other Clan of Xymox albums in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars live xymox, March 11, 2009

seamlessly fusing dark pop with guitar driven rock, the result is much more than the sum of its parts and CoX's music comes out entrancing, commanding and intensely emotional. most of the classics are here.. no wait, the entire set is played to perfection you dont know anymore which are the classics and which are the less known songs.
songs that never really cut it for me in their studio format became new sensations in their live reincarnation. Consolation, out of the rain and Craving to name a few.
even Louise becomes less depressing but in a strangely uplifting kind of way, when heard live.
if you're reading this review it most probably means you're not here by chance, in which case you're urged to hunt down this beauty without hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars For diehard fans of course :), February 20, 2001

I have or have heard just bout everything Xymox has done by now, & still fiending for more...& even though these are songs I know & love in the short months I've really gotten into them, this was the next best thing. As someone already pointed out, the band sounds verrrrrry close to the original recordings. Mooring's voice adds some different flavor to them though so they don't sound exactly like clones. Like I said, if you love these songs already, then get this. Another bonus is the 2 live videos to "Stranger" & "Jasmine & Rose". I wish they would've also included the actual videos to "A Day" & "Imagination" as well, but you can't have it all :) After watching the live videos though, it's kind of teasing me cuz now I just wanna see em even more, but I'll just have to wait til they come back to the states.
