Franco Battiato is one of the best in the music business today. His talents range from experimental music to electronic pop to classic 60's rock tunes. There is absolutely no end to Mr. Battiato's talents.

On this CD, he puts his best on the line by giving us a live "Greatest Hists" collection. This recording is brilliantly done. This CD includes songs ranging from his most commercially successful LP, "La Voce Del Padrone," to material from his early 70's experimental music days. These live recordings give you (or, should I say, us) a chance to hear how well Franco Battiato uses his limited voice to optimal perfection. The instrumentation is truly magnificent.

Franco Battiato is not easy to understand -- even for native Italian speakers. Mr. Battiato is a perpetual student of the humanities -- art, history, philosophy, religion, etc. -- and this is evident in his music. Simply said, this is not meaningless Italian teeny-bopper, bubble-gum music. This is music with deep meaning and emotions; and it is intended to release a myriad of feelings -- love, anger, confusion, disgust. etc. Suffice it to say, Franco Battiato captures every human emotion in the songs he presents on this CD.

This CD is definitely worth owning. However, I have one small slap-on-the-wrists. I heard Mr. Battiato perform "Il Silenzio Del Rumore" and "Archimedes" live in the early 70's. This was a beautifully done Battiato jam session (with experimental music -- no less). If I recall correctly, Mr. Hamill (of Van Der Graf Generation fame) joined Mr. Battiato on this jam session. Consequently, given the personalities involved, I feel that these two musical selections should have been included on this CD.
