Huge disappointment,
By
This review is from: Live in Concert (DVD)
I understand that this concert was recorded thirty years ago, so I was not expecting a brand new, never-before-seen show. However, although one reviewer here referred to this new DVD issue as "remastered," I see no evidence of that at all. It looks like an old VHS recording that has been transferred to DVD and shows all the wear-and-tear of those thirty years. What I had expected was a sharper picture and higher quality sound, but this product does not deliver that. It is grainy and muddy and is a disservice to the artist and the audience.

ATROCIOUS!!!,

I agree with all the negative reviews: save your money! As a Diana Ross fan since her days as a Primette, I am mystified that there has never been an official release of any of her solo concerts (Central Park anyone?) or the many great shows she did with the Supremes (the final concert at the Frontier Hotel?). What gives, Diana? Berry? Whoever owns the Motown catalog these days? Having collected this concert in every format that it has appeared in since VHS, I can say with complete confidence that this DVD is the WORST; it's so awful that it might as well be Freddie Poole on the stage. The laser disc (remember those?) has the best version of this concert and there is a Brazilian all-region DVD that's almost as good. Keep moving and happy hunting!

Ain't Been Licked----or have I?,

Price is right if you don't have this one already, from the GOOD OLD MOTOWN 1900's! BUT, I was disappointed right from the very beginning...the grand royal announcing blaring and declaring horns are missing from the MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH opening, as are the exterior shots of Caesars Palace/Las Vegas, and the huge DIANA ROSS on the marquee. For a dvd, the quality is NOT there as well.....blurry and grainy. But again, since MOTOWN or DIANA won't release any of this old stuff......I guess SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING. Make this world a better place, if YOU can.....do YOU know? AND.....who is pictured in white on the back cover?

Diana at Her Peak !,
By KRA (East End of LI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in Concert (DVD)
NOTE: This concert is a remastered version of a show from September of 1979, and was first aired as a special on HBO during Thanksgiving Weekend of 1979.
Since her days as a Supreme, Diana Ross is at her best on stage, and she drew a legion of hardcore fans that would attend every concert they could. Diana also became a sought after headliner for Casino Showrooms, and this show was taped at the Circus Maximus room at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. First I must state that a key reason I continue to enjoy watching this show is beacuse it focuses on my favorite Diana Ross album, The Boss, that was released in 1979. Five (5) of this shows songs come from this album, I Ain't Been Licked, No One Gets The Prize, It's My House, The Boss, and All For One. The rest of the set list is made up of her classic solo hits like, Touch Me In The Morning, Do You Know Where Your Going To, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, and one nod to the Supreme's era, a short take on Baby Love. In fact this was the only tour of Diana's not to include a medley of Superme's songs. Ms. Ross rounds the show out with a medley of songs from Lady Sings The Blue's, the always popular, Reach Out and Touch, featuring cameos with the late Marvin Gaye, and Ross' 3 daughters. Two other songs include the introspective, Remember Me, and the beautiful Stevie Wonder composition, To Shy To Say. This show is also from an era when casino's would schedule two (2) headliner shows per night, and required that the shows not exceed 60 minutes. Thats said, the staging and pacing of this show are second to none, and it shows the professional that Diana is. Ken

Not Miss Ross on the cover,
By Freddie One (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in Concert (DVD)
This is a DVD touted as Diana Ross Live In Concert, but who is that on the cover? It looks more like Janet Jackson! I think more details should be given so that fans of Miss Ross won't be suckered in by these rip offs. I was given the heads up by someone that purchased this DVD. It was the same concert as a previous release but of very poor quality.
Not fair to the fans at all!

As you have already read from other reviewers, this is a 30 year old concert, which not to say is one of Miss Ross best concert's, but she has done a lot more concerts since then, this is just a re-mastered copy of the other dvd of this same concert only with a picture of Diana on it, this copy is not as good quality like the black cover copy with just her name on it called DIANA ROSS IN CONCERT, so fan's of this Grand Diva don't waste your money on this copy, look for the copy with just her name on the cover, its a better looking and sound quality, I know Miss Ross would be mad as hell if she knew they put out such a poor quality dvd on her, I have all or most of Diana Ross concerts, and they look better then this new one, I really hate the people who do this to stars, they are just fooling the public with a new cover, I think someone from Motown should do something about this!!!, Motown would not let this out!, Motown only does quality work expecally with Miss Ross, I hope someone at Motown see's this and stop this company from selling of this verson and Motown should put out there other concerts Miss Ross has done in her 45 year career, this is by HUDSON/STREET DOWNTOWN ENTERTAINMENT INC, PO. BOX 111, PRINCE STATION, NEW YORK CITY 10012, Lets write them and tell them to upgrade this dvd with better sound and look, and if you are planning on putting out any more dvds on Miss Ross or other entertainers, make sure you have SOME DIANA ROSS FANs PRESENT, I love Diana Ross to death, but I have to give this re-master copy one star, Miss Ross wouldn't let this dvd come out!!!! , We need better quality dvds of Miss Ross!!!If any Diana Ross Fans agree let get this done, write me at [...], I'm not FAT, ITS MY DOG'S NAME!!!(smile) MISS ROSS I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! AN AMAZING PERFORMER,

This review is from: Live in Concert (DVD)
I've seen Diana Ross perform many times in concert & she puts on a hellava show! The video shows why she is a Diva & a great entertainer.
The performance that was taped in Las Vegas back in 1980 showed a true star at her best! The only thing I wished is that she would have performed more of her classic hits when she was with the Supremes. Also, the video quality & the sound quality was not the best. But since Diana Ross is such a great entertainer, you kind of over look the lack of the modern day (HD, Digital, 5.1 Surround Sound, etc.) quality. If you are a big fan of Diana Ross, this video is for you! Her final song, "All For One," shows her amazing voice range & star quality! You have to see it for yourself.

Very Bad Quality reproduction of this amazing show,
This review is from: Live in Concert (DVD)
Being familiar with this show, and seeing both "LIVE' and originally on HBO, I was expecting a really good reproduction, Instead I discovered it was of VERY POOR QUALITY. Way to DARK for most of the show you could barely see the picture. I Would NOT recommend this to anyone!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY. until a future version is released that is worthy of your ownership!!

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR THE DEFINITE DIANA ROSS AT CAESAR'S PALACE DVD??,

Well, if you are, this isn't it. The two stars were for the audio quality which wasn't bad at all but the video quality is horrible. I, like the previous reviewer, miss the original opening of the video which showed the Caesar's Palace marquee with DIANA ROSS in huge letters. The video is dark, muddy and even blurry. As a lifelong Diana Ross fan, I was so looking forward to getting this. Imagine my shock when I put it in my DVD player and was subjected to such a shoddy product. I wish Diana would release a pristine copy of this concert as it has always been one of my favorites. She looks fabulous and sounds wonderful. And I also must mention, who the hell is that on the back cover? Is it a secretary form Hudson Street they recruited to try to look like Diana? What a crock!!
