5.0 out of 5 stars A new concept in Gospel Music !!!
KIM, KIM, KIM! She really takes Gospel Music into an entire new level! She is so anointed, sometimes her songs make me cry, even though I've heard this album a thousand times!

Musically, this album goes beyond anything i've heard before! the arrangements are incredibly deep and elaborated. Complex chords and scales flow through this recording... if you are a musician...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Kim Burrelll's Best
I wasn't too impressed with this album as I have been with Kim's past albums. I only liked a few songs, and I mean, only a few of songs off this album. In addition, her voice sounded hoarse and the songs weren't anointed to me. I just didn't think the songs matched her style of singing. I give it three stars because I did like a few songs off the album, but it wasn't...

Complex chords and scales flow through this recording... if you are a musician like me, you will love it!!! if not, some might not understand the musical ideas they put on the stage...

I think the Latin song, "Victory", does not fit into this album, just because of this, I dont give it six stars. There are some mixing problems as well, but the songs are so enjoyable, plenty of both virtuosity and inspiration, that you wont notice it. The band performance is simply great, awesome guys! The background vocals blend smoothly with kim and the musicians.

Kim shines as nobody else can, she is truly anointed! Just check out her solos! I have no words. If you haven't bought this album, just buy it and GET READY!

5.0 out of 5 stars "AWESOME ANOITED & LIVE", March 25, 2003

Kim Burell is a very odd singer but beautiful. Her squeaky voice takes gospel music to another level. This live CD inspires you to look at your personal life with Jesus Christ. "Calvary" is one of my favorite songs it's awesome. The first couple of songs on her cd are Worship tracks. "Holy Ghost" is another track that get's you in the presence of God. "How will you know" questions your faith In God. The music has a jazzy flavor to it. Background singers blend in well. Her adlibs are wonderful. I love Kim Burell I'm ready for her third deput.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only Something "Real Musicians Can Appreciate", March 9, 2001

This Album is absolutly off the meter. Kim is annointed like no other. I don't know what I would do without her voice. Her first album "Try Me" was awesome; Her second album "Everlasting Life" was ,well it still is speechless to rate; And now "Kim Burell Live in Concert" is only for people that can appreciate real music. She is Music! Her band is out of this world!!!! Her background singers WOW!!! Melonie Daniels I know your voice anywhere, YOU ROCKED THE ALTO!. The whole band and the singers just added more anointing to all that Kim has already. It's not all in a person's range that makes you a great singer or how many riffs they can do or even their tone quality. What makes Kim so unique is that, she has it all, and it's anointed; and that makes the difference. It's the annointing that destroys yokes. If you claim to be a musician whether you sing or play an instrument,You will appreciate this album and all of her past albums. Christian or not you will be blessed!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars not flawless, but CERTAINLY most impressive., March 22, 2005
This review is from: Live in Concert (Audio CD)
kim burrell is, by far, the best thing in gospel music right now. undisputedly. her singing on this album, as with any other time she opens her mouth, is flawless. ms. burrell can sing circles around a chord until you've forgotten the original key. literally. her, yes HER, arrangements can make even the best gospel musicians cry. this is a live recording of great quality.

there is a downside, if even just a very little one. her backup singers do not match her, in quality or in tone. in addition, she did actually slow down 'holy spirit' from the original recording, but that could have been done, either becuase she wanted to revisit it slightly differently, or because she wanted to generate a more ambient atmosphere through her music than the original speed would have allowed.

nitpicking aside, it would be insane to say that there's any reason to NOT purchase this recording.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kim Uncut, May 5, 2003

I really enjoyed the album. Kim you are awesome and anoited. Stay in Gods will and he will continue to bless you.The band had a great lineup, but if you dont understand the way a person thinks then you will not understand all the time what is going on through the speakers. There were times that the band lost control but,it could have been abstract, as deep as Jimane is, listen to prodical son convcition, those are no ordinary chord structures, they are very complex and I believe he was beyond the traditional standard progressions. To the band, keep on and God bless.

P.S. this is her third debut. Her first is try me again.

From this new project, to the new Donald Lawrence LP, "Tri-city4.com", to Missy Elliott's new LP, "Miss E...So Addictive", to the new Bad Boy gospel LP, "Thank YOU", Ms. Burrell angelic, anointed presence is being welcomed in ALL CIRCLES!! And THIS CD IS THE MAIN REASON WHY!!!! While her first release on Tommy Boy Gospel, "Everlasting Life", introduced the mainstream world to her, "Live IN Concert" solidified her staying POWER!!!

Produced by herself, Percy Bady, and Jimaine Nelson, "Live In Concert" had ALL THE KEY INGREDIANTS to a SUCESSFUL LIVE LP: the band, the song lineup, and THE ARTIST!!!

Standout joints include: "Holy Ghost", "Calvary", "Try Me Again", and "How Will You KNOW?".

This is a MUST HAVE 4 ANY GOSPEL FAN!!! It will minister to every part of your life!!! HOLLA!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Diva of Gospel" has done it again!, March 25, 2001

Long awaited! But well worth the wait! Kim Burrell live is a gift to all musicians who can hear, value and appreciate great music. With this album, Kim Burrell has entered a zone of gospel singing that only she and the Lord may dwell in. She is truly unique in her annointed gift. There is definitely none like her in this day.

Kim demonstrates the art of funk, jazz, and gospel all in one. She has perfect voice control and rifts that will blow your mind. Not to mention the way she beutifully switches her tone throughout her songs. And her background? Well they just go without saying. Just look who theyre backing up. You know that they are TIGHT!

With her all-star line up, "Band Of Life," Kim couldnt have done better. The ever so popular Maurice Fitzgerald makes a surprise appearance on the bass. Along with that chi-town, "Off Timing Monster" on the drums, Calvin Rodgers! Jimane Nelson and Shawn Martin litteraly ripped the keyboards in half! Talk about giving God 100%. Talk about Kim Burrell Live In Concert!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not too sure about this one.., April 16, 2001

Yes, her band was the best thing on this CD. If you're a musician, then you'll really feel this one (as far as music and beats are concerned). However, a singer wouldn't necessarily get into this CD. She can sing and all, but there was just too much going on. The backgroud vocals were flat (particularly the one singing soprano) and turned up too loud. Actually, this recording was not polished like it should have been----SHAME ON YOU TOMMY BOY GOSPEL. I like about 3-4 songs on the CD. Kim is annointed and all, but I think this CD would have gone over better if she would have recorded it about 4 years from now.
