5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful mantramusic for inner and outer peace, February 4, 2008
By
This review is from: Live in Concert (Audio CD)
These beautiful recordings was made during some North American shows on her ongoing Celebrate Peace Tour. And where many activists only talk about peace, Snatam actually embodies and emanates it. She may not have the most wonderful female voice ever heard, but she sings from a pure Heart, bound to touch the listener and open his/hers heart too.

She is not affraid to take risks on stage, and here she is accompanied by a small but very accomplished band. With GuruGanesha Singh Kalsa on guitar, who certainly looks like a guru with turban and long white beard and plays some delighful fills and solos. The brilliant tablaplayer Manish Vyas, who has recorded with the likes of Deva Premal and Prem Joshua, besides releasing a string of fine soloalbums. And the very discreet keyboardplayer Ram Dass Singh Kalsa, who also plays some meditative clarinet-soloes, just as Snatam occasionally picks up her violin.

We get some of her most beloved tracks, ending with her 'hit', her hauntingly beautiful melody to the traditional Sikh-lyrics "Aad Guray Nameh". Vyas and GuruGanesha also contributing a song each.

The music is free and flowing, very well-played. The album can be listened to just for musical pleasure, but also for meditation, healing, relaxation, yoga etc..

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent live album., November 18, 2007
This review is from: Live in Concert (Audio CD)
Live albums can be disappointing. This one isn't. I already have several of the songs/chants from previous albums, so was pleasantly surprised to find some of the live versions even better than the studio versions (all except Ong Namo which I found a bit slow and dirgy live, - the only track I found disappointing). OK, on some of the tracks, Snatam encourages the audience to chant along, but this really doesn't detract in any way from the performances. The production and sound quality is of the highest order, and Snatam's voice is as pure as ever. I particularly liked hearing her chanting along with male voices too. Best track is Shivoham, with Manish Vyas. Worth the entry money alone! The first track, Azure Salver is beautiful too. And of course, with the DVD you get to see clips of the tour too. You don't get to hear complete 'songs' but it is more of a taster and feel for the tour and the performers. Great to see Snatam in action as well as to hear.
All in all, a great set. And if you want to check out some of the audio clips before buying, go to SpiritVoyage website (they produce all the Snatam Kaur albums). Enjoy.

Just when you thought it was safe to stop relaxing and chilling out, Snatam takes us to a higher level of awareness once more with her first ever live album and a glimpse of her roadshow. What can I say, she's done it again! Highly recommended!
