5.0 out of 5 stars Frampton's Latest Live Cd Is Outstanding!
After listening to this new live cd from Peter Frampton, I had to buy the dvd of this concert as well. Once you see Frampton's energy onstage you'll appreciate this cd even more. I actually like this cd as much as his classic live album of 1976, and it sounds better because of technological advancements in the music industry. His rendition of Humble Pie's "I Don't Need No...

3.0 out of 5 stars Live in Detroit
Frampton can still kick it out, is the short version. And he's developed a mature irony to go along with his chops. The version of "Do You Feel Like We Do" rocks as titanically as the _Alive_ version did. But this one includes a rollicking, funky piano breakdown, as well as a more boisterous bass line. 5.0 out of 5 stars Frampton's Latest Live Cd Is Outstanding!, January 7, 2001

His rendition of Humble Pie's "I Don't Need No Doctor" is superior to the original Humble Pie version. Frampton plays all his requested hits plus one new song which is a slow song but is nice just the same. I see where one reviewer says there's only one live album and that's Frampton's 76' album. Well Frampton (in my mind) is better now than back then. I know cause I've seen him in concert recently and he puts on one heck of a show.

4.0 out of 5 stars Do you feel like I do?, June 13, 2000
This review is from: Live in Detroit (Audio CD)
Peter Frampton has one of my all-time favorite songs, the awesome guiter filled, lyrically stunning... Do you Feel Like I Do. This song is absolutely one of my favorites and this recording of it is great. The rest of the album is Classic Frampton, so if your a fan it's a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as DVD, July 3, 2006
This review is from: Live in Detroit (Audio CD)
The DVD is great! The CD, however, falls short. It has an abbreviated song list, as usual. While I'm a able to do without Penny For Your Thoughts and I'll Give You Money, how can they possibly leave out Baby (Somethin's Happening)?!! This opening song sets the tone for the entire concert! I'm very disappointed that I didn't review the track list prior to purchase. Get the DVD. You'll enjoy the concert much more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more precise and clean than "Comes Alive", September 17, 2004
This review is from: Live in Detroit (Audio CD)
HES BACK!!!.. This Album is at his finest. Its better than Comes Alive because its very clean and the solos are much more dark and mystical... Comes Alive had great Solos, however Live in Detroit has Absolute Domination over What we heard from CA..Lines on my face is possible one of the best songs Ive ever heard, and in this version I nearly cried. DONT LISTEN TO THE CRAPPY REVIEWS!!!! BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good live show but doesn't match the classic 'Comes Alive', January 2, 2002

This review is from: Live in Detroit (Audio CD)
Nearly 24 years after the original 'Frampton Comes Alive' album recorded in 1975, which marked a defining moment for Peter Frampton and for rock music generally, Peter demonstrates that he can still put on an impressive show as he runs through many of his best known numbers. He has not followed the trend of some big-name bands and used several additional musicians to create a more studio-like sound on stage; here, as in '75, Frampton on guitar is backed only by three other musicians, among them Bob Mayo who played keyboards and guitar on 'Comes Alive'. The group play with the skill and subtlety one would expect from experienced, mature musicians, though with the advancing years Frampton's fire has diminished a little, and the performance throughout does not quite match the high energy of 'Comes Alive'. In particular, though Peter's lead guitar work is as competent as ever, it lacks some of the incisiveness evident on the original live album.

Most of the key tracks from 'Comes Alive' are covered, together with a few numbers from later albums, but herein is one of the failings of the collection - that it tries a little too hard to reproduce the original hit live album. This is rather pointless as the defining live versions of those songs are on 'Comes Alive', and the 1999 renditions do not add anything new. 'Do you feel like we do', for example, which was already an almost interminable 14 minutes long on the original live album, is now even longer, and 'Can't take that away' (from the 1994 'Peter Frampton' album) is stretched to 10 minutes and yet is weaker than the studio version (Peter's swearing in a mock Scottish accent not surprisingly adds nothing of value to this track!). It might have been better to produce an excellent live collection of completely different tracks from those of 'Comes Alive' - certainly within Peter's back catalogue of studio albums there are ample suitable songs. So whilst this album is certainly of interest to committed Frampton fans (who should be sure to go for the German SPV record label version, which runs to two CDs and has several additional tracks, rather than the shorter BMG version), it is no substitute for the original live album, which is now available in an excellent remastered version with four extra songs.

The crowd roars in anticipation of the by now familiar climaxes, but they still sound fresh, nonetheless. And Frampton is on to himself as rock dinosaur, never taking himself too seriously. At one point, during the talkbox section, he even breaks into a little Austin Powers routine. "Yeah, baybee!" A treat!

5.0 out of 5 stars I wonder how you're feeling..., November 10, 2004

Well I'm feeling pretty good after finally having the sense to just go out and buy this superb album.

This really is an exceptional album, and a showcase for Peter's guitar mastery. His playing has matured to a frightening degree, and the sheer class almost overwhelms you. Likewise his vocals are as strong as ever, yet his phrasing is more subtle, adding to the impact of this superb collection of songs.

Lines On My Face is still one of my favorite Frampton songs, and this version is simply stunning. The song selection is awesome, ranging from the Humble Pie classic I Don't Need No Doctor to You Had To Be There, which also appears in the superb Almost Famous movie, in which Peter plays a hilarious cameo as Reg, the Humble Pie manager.

The guy just keeps on getting better, folks. Every track is a gem, and there is enough of a variation in styles to make this a very satisfying album all the way through. The classics are in here, with some great newer songs too.

A great album from one of the classiest guitarists in the business.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous stuff, November 29, 2003
This review is from: Live in Detroit (Audio CD)
Got this after reading reviews and for once I wasnt dissapointed. This is a great live recording of good music played very tightly. The HDCD recording is up to the best I've heard and all instruments are spaciously defined. Maybe I'll save up and get the Frampton comes alive special edition, but if its anything like this I wont be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Can't Make It To The Show, November 19, 2000

It's been over 25 years since Frampton Comes Alive rocked the music world. And on this gem of a live CD he hasn't lost a step. The sound is electric, all the hits are here. And on the import double disc version you get an extra helping of Somethings Happening, Penny For Your Thoughts and the rockin I'll give You Money. If you haven't had the opportunity to see Peter live you'll want to check these discs out, and if you have you already know what I'm talking about. And you'll want this as a souvenir. This is the next best thing to sitting front row, so I strongly suggest you check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of energy, October 8, 2000

I've never heard a live perfomance of Peter Frampton until this one. The CD is full of energy is very dynamic. The beginnig of the recording pulls you completely into the music, then it slows down and then it picks up speed, energy and power again. I don't know how many times I've heard it so far. My favorites are 2, 10 and 11. It's not boring at all.
