5.0 out of 5 stars I Absolutely Love It
Strung Out does it again. Most live albums have good vocal and bad music or vise versa. But in the case it is perfect. The bands playing has no flaws. It has over 20 songs so your getting your money worth. No only does it have some of their greatest stuff they have a mindblowing cover of Ozzy Osbournes "Bark At The Moon" which even an Ozzy fan could appreciate...

Strung Out is a brilliant band, of which I have had the pleasure of witnessing live countless countless times. Sadly I think this live record is disappointing for the older Strung Out fans. The musicianship on this one is tight and lives up to the band's technical reputation well. No real disappointments there. However there are moments on this live recording that just sound "forced" and even goofy at times. Jason drops way too many "F-bombs", sounding like a 13 year old kid with tourette's syndrome. I don't know, this record just sounds engineered for the 12 year old punk kid just discovering Strung Out. The packaging / artwork is a little bit weak too- reminds me of a wanna-be Misfits album jacket. The swearing seriously does not offend me, but it makes a technical and mature band come accross goofy to the mature listener.

I think this is still worth owning if you're an older fan like myself, but it leaves me fearing this band is temporarily ignoring it's roots maybe in efforts to bring in a new crop of kids?? Whatever the case, Strung Out is a band with great power and potential. I'd personally like to see them expand on the tracks of Elements of Sonic Defiance and ultimately leave the limited label "skate-punk" in the dust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its about time they released a live album!, June 14, 2003
This review is from: Live in a Dive (Audio CD)
A great album capturing what Strung Out are all about. The energy they have live is really captured on this album. Some strange omissions though, like Six Feet, Fire Cracker & Mind of My Own. The songs on the cd works really well, with a few reworked songs. Even if you have a mild interest in punk rock this is a must have album.

amazon has cut off my comment and reply priviledges, but i noticed under a karajan dg beethoven sym 9 review by santa fe listener that you wanted to know the deleted comments there. i only was asking that great reviewer about exactly what the best beethoven ninth was and that reviewer is the best or near to it on amazon for classical music. santa fe listener gives up favorites only occassionally on beethoven in order to make others do a bit of digging in their reviews. furtwangler / 1954 lucerne festival / tahra may be the best. i've heard (and own, but haven't played it much/enough yet due to other researches) that karajan/ deutsche grammophon issue and it did not hit me as the best at all, but i don't have the equipment nor ear of sfl. if you want to hear greatness in classical music, santa fe listener has led me to buy, and be stunned by: (1) furtwangler- brahms: symphonies 1-4 / haydn variations- 4 cd box set on music & arts label; (2) bernstein- mahler: symphony no. 9 / berlin philharmonic orchestra / deutsche grammophon label- 1 cd; (3) sviatoslav richter- schubert: piano sonatas d.958 /d.960- alto label- 1 cd. these are all affordable, in good sound, masterpiece compositions with conducting or playing, and in print. richter was a master at beethoven piano sonatas as were rudolf serkin, edwin fischer and artur schnabel and a couple others. the symphonies by furtwangler, who was anti- nazi not a nazi as a book by osbourne goes into at length. tahra has good sound but expensive. beethoven sym 3- eroica is especially valued as is the ninth. hope you reread your revied item reviews again to see this.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best, August 2, 2010

Live in a dive is one of the best live recordings I've heard in a while, granted I first heard it four years ago even though it was originally put out in 2003. It is by far one of the best energitic punk rock live albums of our time. And the words that I type to you today aren't enough to give it justice if your into music, lyrics, and music period. And music is in your veins this album is the album to listen too. Nough said.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grrrreat live album, June 9, 2003

Strung Out has always 'stuck out' in my mind when it comes to punk rock. They have tighter songs than most punk bands and also fade into hardcore/metal occasionally.

Thier new album "Live in a Dive", is a perfect representation of what the band is and where they have come from. The album is live and you know it. There is something special on live albums of great live bands. Thier sound is tight, vocals are great, and the energy tips the richter scale. I've listened to all of Fat Wreck Chords' "Live in a Dive" albums so far and Strung Out's is probably the best. Every song is great, plus they have improved old ones as well. Never heard these guys, this is the perfect introduction.

If Fat Wreck Chords keeps put em out, Ill keep buying and listening.
AND SO SHOULD YOU.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best live bands of all-time!, June 8, 2003
This review is from: Live in a Dive (Audio CD)
Strung Out are one of the best, most technical bands on the scene. This record confirms that.

The sound quality, the crowd interaction.... everything on this
works like a charm. Jason Cruz swears over a hundred times, which is rather funny in the long run.

Anyways, if you consider yourself a fan of fast, catchy, good punk rock, you must add this to your collection.

This is basically Strung Out's greatest hits, PLUS an extra dose of energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars More or less the same (that's a good thing), June 6, 2003
This review is from: Live in a Dive (Audio CD)
It's hard now-a-days to find a good punk band that hasn't either gone soft or poppy. Strung out is one of those exceptions. They have rocked for years and continue their legacy with their new album. You wont hear any songs here about that one special blond cheerleader that you see in the halls every day in highschool, you wont hear any songs about farting and acting stupid either.. Just good old fashoned punk music with some new twists to keep things fresh. If you liked their other albums, then you will enjoy this one too. Its a keeper.
