5.0 out of 5 stars A competent review. The two I saw were garbage., February 28, 2006

Never been a huge fan of Fat Wreck Chords, but this album is a must have for anybody into punk music. Surprisingly the recording is excently, an anomaly for this genre of music. It doesn't sound like The Subhumans are playing under water! Which is the standard for most live albums. Really, this almost sounds like it could have been recorded in a studio if it weren't for the audience making noise in the back ground.

If you're a fan of The Subhumans and you weren't too impressed with the Worlds Apart album then give this record a try, because the songs from Worlds Apart are sung with much more energy and are delivered much better, but don't be mislead, the songs span their entire carrer. I'll be honest, when I heard the audience sing along the lyrics to Subvert City, I cried. Really amazing. The Subhumans really performed well at this show. The songs have a different feeling than their studio recordings.

Pick up this album.

This is a recent live set from the band in the USA.They blaze through a marathonic 26 song-set of their best songs from their entire discography -fortunately including a lot from their first eps,coz those are the ones I'm familiar with- in a relentless, fast and raw way, wisely leaving the slow and or ska-styled ones for the studio nevertheless giving the songs a more rock n roll oriented structure than before. This release is more worthy than their entire discography !!! The sound is OK but the takes on the kick drums and bass guitar -while excellent- drown out the rest of the drums, especially the snares, giving the songs a lot of punch but draining it of realism. The lads include a new, unreleased song in the set and the cheery on the pie is an interactive track including both a live video excerpt from one of the songs and an interview with the band.

Conclusion : You're way better off with the dvd which is from another gig, has better sound, and only half of the setlist in common making owning both discs a good decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE never-say-die Birt bands that's still good, February 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Live in a Dive (Audio CD)
[Sub][Hum][Ans] were probably the only member of the UK anarcho-crusty community that was never on Crass Records. Fat Mike of NOFX, however, has got to release a lot of his idols on his own Fat Wreck Chords label, such as the [Sub][Hum][Ans] (they were name-dropped in NOFX song "We Got 2 Jealous Agains" along w/ every other great 80s punk act) and the Descendents. But, unlike so many other old British punkers, the [Sub][Hum][Ans] still seem remarkably fresh and relevant, even if they are only playing old songs, for a band that's celebrating, what, it's 23rd birthday? Dick does throw in a new one, "This Year's War" which was written about the War in Afghanistan, but could be applied to Iraq or any other pointless war. I offer my sincerest thanks to [Sub][Hum][Ans], as well. A couple years ago, when I was getting into punk, I never would have guessed that it would inspire me to question the US, or become a pacifist (-gasp-, that's hippie s**t!). But through a trail of bands (Bouncing Souls to Ramones to Buzzcocks to Sex Pistols to Anti-Flag to Bad Religion to Dead Kennedys to Crass to the Exploited to Conflict to [Sub][Hum][Ans] to Reagan Youth to Zounds to the Mob to Neon Christ to Boskops to... you get the idea) I was soon refusing to pledge allegiance and arguing with my friends (peace is logical and humane, not hippie s**t!)
Anyway, as a side note, some songs I wish had been on here: "'Til the Pigs Come 'Round," "Big City," "Human Error," "Zyklon-B-Movie," "No More Gigs," "Rats," and "New Age" (which did show up as the bonus video).
