A Good Sample of the Shows,

This review is from: Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis (DVD)
I watched several hours of the Live Earth concerts on television and was thrilled to see that a DVD/CD compilation was available. I was pleased with the variety of the songs and performances that were included on this set, especially some of the memorable duets, such as Keith Urban and Alicia Keys on Gimme Shelter. I also liked the fact that there was a CD as well as the two DVD's. It was great to be able to watch some of my favorite performances again. Overall, I am very pleased that I bought this DVD/CD set.

all messed up, missing so many other songs,
This review is from: Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis (DVD)
Well music and rock fans - need help on this one. Where is the rest of the rock groups songs that performed? This internet rock show was as big as Live 8 back in 2005, maybe even bigger. Some bands had played several songs, not one or two. Will there be a part 2,3 or 4 to this Live Earth concert? This is why it gets a single star. So much is left out - plus it does not even say if it is unrated, do not want cut songs. The music on this is wonderful - however so much is left out. For example, Linkin Park had maybe up to ten songs or close to that number. Unhappy and unclear about this, where do we look and go from here to locate missing concert music?

Too Much Talking - Too Little Music,

So much of the music was left off this DVD it staggers the mind. This DVD seems to be 60% talk and 40% music. Many of the performances were cut short leaving me irritated beyond belief. Live 8 is a superior offering.

I was dissapointed with the dvd as I thought it would have more content. RE: It only had one song by the Police and Linkin Park. Even though I know the Police played at least 3 songs.

The Live Earth Concerts for a Climate in Crisis on July 7, 2007 were a chance to get the word out about the problems of global warming. This was to be a significant event for the younger generation to understand the scope of the problem that Al Gore had been talking about for years. The concerts covered multi continents with many entertainers. This two DVD/one CD set acts as a kind of highlight reel of the shows with a special focus on the New Jersey and London venues.
For the most part the musical selection is quite good albeit limited. There are the mandatory performances by the big names: Roger Waters, Genesis, The Police and Metallica. The best performances are some of the smaller ones: Rihanna's Umbrella from Tokyo, Linken Park's Bleed it Out from the same venue, Joss Stone from South Africa. The absolue highlight was Melissa Etheridge's I Need To Wake Up from an Inconvenient Truth. The set includes quite a bit of bonus material including an extended making of feature, a presentation on a green record label and some short films and public service announcements that were shown at the concert. The only real problem is that we weren't treated to more of the music.

Good intentions, important message and amazing artists... We have watched the Madonna and Gogol Bordello show at least five times the day I got the DVD set. It was a gift for my brother in law but I think, I am going to order a set for myself too. Fantastic concerts...

i agree with most reviewers, 1 song from every performer and many left out? HEY YOU on cd but not on dvd? u would think that HEY YOU, being a specially written song and performance 4 the event, wouldve at least made the dvd 1 song live perfomance cut, instead of the bordello version of LA ISLA BONITA! really!

Who's bright idea was it to include one song from almost each popular artist on this? This should be called Live 8 my wallet

I was pleased with most of the selections on the DVD and was real excited to see the SOS All-STARS as the very first selection.
I'm not a big fan of Madonna and was disappointed to see and hear her on both the CD and the DVD.I admit she is very talented but would of liked to see or hear other bands that didn't even make it on either the CD or DVD. I will think twice before I decide to purchase the second edition of this concert. I read other reviews before I ordered this and was surprised at how unhappy people seemed to be with the selections and I understand now why. The day of the concert I saw and heard so many wonderful bands and hoped for a better selection when this edition was released. I don't know who makes the decisions for these releases but was disappoined with a lot of the selections and found myself pushing the forward button many times. Where was Spinal Tap and some of the other bands that I enjoyed? I would of enjoyed more of Melissa Ethridge and Roger Waters instead of the duplication of these artist on both the CD and DVD. Come on people what happened to variety? So many things could of been better had corporate greed not had their hand in this...... |
