Songs and Ballads for Everyman,

This live album begins with the fiery 'Revolution' (written by an American worker) and transitions to the beautiful ballad 'Now Westlin Winds' from the album _Handful of Earth_ with perfect ease. It's amazing to hear Gaughan perform 'Westlin' live - it's always been one of my favourite songs of his (along with Green Linnet from _No More forever_). The rest of the album follows on the same lines with political songs like 'Victor Jara' or 'Workers Song' making way for the achingly beautiful 'Jamie Foyers' and ending with a stirring version of 'World turned upside down'. It's all acoustic - just a man with a guitar doing what he does better than most.
There is some interesting political commentary and low-key Scots humor between songs and the whole concert seems like a wonderful return to performance by the greatest Scottish singer that I have ever heard.
