3.0 out of 5 stars Experimental sound, first gig - germination of a super band., December 17, 2000

I really looked forward to getting a hold of this, being a big fan of the original Elektric Band material. I am quite disappointed with this CD, as compared to the studio albums the absence of electric guitar and sax is noticable. Some of the tracks seem to go a bit wayward to me, and I'm sure its all in the name of experimentation and evolution of their sound that was to follow. I'd guess people who prefer The Acoustic Band or Elektric band (11) might like this recording more than me. The first proper Elektric Band album is THE one to buy in my opinion. That said, I'm pleased to own it for its relative rarity & curiosity value if nothing else. Don't get me wrong, of course there is some phenomenal playing - these boys are the business after all, but its much more of an acoustic sound than I like. I figure Chick must have thought that too, and he decided to add Scott Henderson / Frank Gambale to give the band the harder fusion edge, and pull the job off big time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare find! A must have for jazz-fusion fans!, August 22, 2000

The first live performance of this power-trio is evidence that they clicked right off the bat. It also has some interesting experimental sounds. A young Dave Weckl rips on drums.
