Sue Foley Live in Europe,
By Mr Caud "blues fan" (IL ,USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live in Europe (DVD)
Excellent DVD.Not only do you get one great show but two (the Amsterdam show)as well, both are complete shows interview free. There is also a photo gallery plus an interview.Sue Foley is amazing and easily rates 5 stars.I do have to mention that the product info reads the code to be a region 2, but the DVD I purchased from amazon /borders is a code free 0 region , which plays fine on my USA purchased DVD player.

The Bonus Concert Clicks,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Live in Europe (DVD)
The first show in a small club in Germany, the Sue Foley Band seems at times stiff in front of the cameras. It really doesn't cook until about two-thirds thru when they play material from "New Used Car". The filmwork also has too many shots from the knees upward. The room is dark, the older audience laid back. The best part is the close-ups of Sue Foley working her pink guitar with multiple colored lights in the background. It's a good show more for listening than viewing. The live version of "Absolution" is a roof raiser. The second concert in Amsterdam is Sue at her loose, live best. The venue is bigger and Foley works the larger audience like an outdoor festival. Her vocals aren't as good as the first show, but it doesn't matter. It's all about the guitar and upbeat presentation. The supporting band keeps right in step with solid piano work doing great live versions from "Young Girl Blues" and "Change". Luckily they must of forgot the cameras were on. It's a short live dandy. The bonus interview is well done as Foley talks about her beginning years to the present including "The Guitar Woman" project. Overall it's a very good DVD worth the purchase. 21 total songs, 4 of which are repeated in the second show.

Foley''s Guitar Always Sounds Good,
By
This review is from: Live in Europe (DVD)
This was better than I had hoped for, and I expected a decent blues concert DVD. I got better than "decent," because of the instrumental work in here and the good selection of numbers. Bascially, this is a feel-good concert where most of the time, if you like blues, you are more than enjoying this. What's even better is that there are two concerts in here. On the second, a bonus, Sue repeats some of the songs but the good news is that she sounds a lot better. Her voice is far better than on the main concert. I don't know what her problem was that night but at least I know - thanks to that bonus feature - that she's a better singer than I first thought.
Sue Foley's guitar playing is excellent. That, there is NO doubt. I never realized she was this talented. She also isn't bad to look at, which doesn't hurt. The selections vary from up-tempo (the majority) to ballads to one that even had a bit of a country-ish flavor. In almost all her songs, she never overpowered any of the instrumental work which includes a couple of short but wonderful keyboard solos.
