5.0 out of 5 stars A Shred Sensation, April 4, 2005
This review is from: Live Extreme 1 (Audio CD)
Perfect, i have never heard anything as beautiful as this. When I found this at a neighborhood yardsale i almost defecated my pants. Jeff Martin sings like an angel. 30 seconds into Paul Gilberts electric guitar solo and i was speechless. So Racers, if you're feeling dangerous, pop this cd in and let good times roll!

I've loved this band since I first discovered them back in the mid 80's. While "Extreme Volume I Live" shows the band in top form, the transfer to cd is not the best... good enough though. The playing is imaculate and all of the band's members went on to other things... Paul Gilbert of course went on to form Mr. Big and also have a successful solo career, Scott Travis went on the become Judas Priest's drummer, Jeff Martin became the drummer for Badlands, (Voodoo Highway and Dusk), and more recently the drummer w/ The Plot, (feat. Micheal Schenker-gtrs. and Pete Way- bass), John Alderete and Bruce Bouillet formed The Scream w/ John Corabi, (one time Motley Crue singer), and remain active in the music biz. Of course, all but Bruce continue to write, record, and perform as Racer X to this day. I recomend this to anyone who loves the over the top speed of light virtuosity of the late 80's and (very) early 90's when people really bothered to learn to play their instuments intstead of just using them as props. Vol. I features individual solos from each band member. This should really get 5 stars but the transfer cuts one star off... and it really isn't that bad... buy it and play it often... loud!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Listen to this CD...., February 24, 2003

If you're like me, a guitar player (15+ years) you've heard of the great Racer X.. I knew that they were fantastic, and that Paul Gilbert was an amazing player, but really, how good CAN he be???
I had my guitar in my hands when I popped in this CD for the first time, figuring I'd have me a little jam session with the disk, and, after about the first note of the opening song, I set down the guitar, and just listened to the entire disk, without moving or playing, just absorbing all that I could from this CD. If you are a guitar player, you MUST own or at least respect this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trazan's Day Off..., May 9, 2003
This review is from: Live Extreme 1 (Audio CD)
I spent a good portion of my time in High School in the early 90s just trying to figure out the solo to Gone Too Far. So much I destroyed my CD player going back and forth. If you havent heard a perfectly exectuted twin lead harmony, this is the one you MUST hear. Paul and Bruce pull the most amazing LIVE guitar work I have ever heard. This along with Live Extreme Volume II are truly works of art. Its better than WRONGWAY Malmsteen's live in Leningrad.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like incredible guitar, This is the CD., December 17, 1998

When I first heard of Racer X, I was just learning to play guitar is high school. I was looking for some music that pushed guitar talent to the extreme edge. With this album, I found it. The music is first rate heavy metal (for that time... mid 80s), and with the solo instrumentals, this is an album that will keep you rockin for some time to come.

This cd came out when they had two guitarists. They were my favorite band at the time, along with XYZ. I saw them many times during the release of their first two studio albums and many more times, during the release of their two subsequent live albums. This stuff still sounds as good as it did then.

4.0 out of 5 stars Live, Extreme Volume!, October 27, 2008
This review is from: Live Extreme 1 (Audio CD)
I've been a big fan of Racer X since the 80's, love the band. Both albums are a must have for the Racer X fan. If you're a guitarist and have never heard Racer X, you have to check them out. Paul Gilbert and Bruce Bouliet are awesome guitarists. How do you describe Racer X? The best way is guitar rock, solos are technical and fast. I wouldn't consider them "heavy" just rock. Racer X live is as good as in the studio.

as a drummer myself I think Scott Travis is as solid a rock drummer as there is but I gotta tell you that the guitar playing on this CD absolutely smokes! These guys tear it up at every turn and don't miss a trick. You guitarists out there, get his CD, fasten your seat belts and crank this sucker up!
